Anybody know why Cox took its classic call letters when it changed 97.1 to classic rock, "The River" and put them on a small classic rock station in CT named "The Fox"?

Don't know why they moved it, unless they wanted fresh branding for 97.1 ("Fox 97" being too associated with 60s oldies, and "good times and eight oldies" at the end). Of course, I would think that "WFOX" would be worth a lot more to Rupert Murdoch than Anne Cox Chambers, so they had to park it somewhere to keep from giving it away. And I am sure that CC would love to have it for WRFX out of Charlotte http://www.wrfx.com/main.html .

More odd is CC's merry-go-round of WPCH. After Lite (WLTM) came in, first it went to an AM country station in Augusta (IIRC), then 96.5 out of Gray (which is now WEBL 96.5 The Bull after a frequency swap). I suspect the reason for the 97.1 callsign change was to seperate The River from its oldies past. Although it is more common now for new formats to bring new callsigns. I suspect the reason the callsign didn't change during the "Jamz" experiment is because Cox knew it would fail.

Cox has KFOX-TV in El Paso...a FOX affiliate. So Cox has Rupert on both ends.

As for WPCH...don't forget WPCH-TV Channel 17 here in Atlanta (Peachtree TV). After the calls departed 94.9, they went to an AM station in Augusta for a couple of years before landing in Macon. The switch of Peach and The Bull in Macon just occured a couple of weeks ago.
