WFPG WTF!!!

What the heck happened? I don't think there has ever been a book when 50kw WFPG was beaten in the 12+ demo by their 3kw sister station. Am I wrong? When you are in a two book market it's a loooong time to wait through a bad Spring book till January for the next set of ratings to come out.

Their "sister station" is not 3KW ... it's a Class B1 25,000 watt equivalent (13,500 watts)
and it's 100 feet higher. It's an equivalent signal. Nothing wrong with having 2 of the
top 3 stations in the market.

F the beauty pagent numbers, their biggest problem is that they are not #1 25-54, the hot ac station in the market is. How many hot ac's beat the heritage ac 25-54? you probably can count that on one hand.

So is it that fpg is bad or is it that ayv is good? Probably a little of both if you ask me. Can't deny what you hear on 95% of the radios on all the boardwalks every weekend.

All that matters really is money, and ayv and fpg will forever make double what cat and buzz make. It is all about who is listening more so than how many or how long are listening.

Tom: Sorry about the wrong info regarding Cat. I guess my shock was really about the tumble for WFPG. A mass appeal format bested by Country in an area like South Jersey. The track record, as far as I can tell, is one of WFPG always ahead of WPUR. Then again, I could be wrong.

Tom... c'mon man... level with me here.... I know you work there... but... FPG should not EVER get beat by a Hot AC in W25-54.... EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER.... not unless you were a 3kw out of the Villas... and we all know the best signal down there is WFPG, with a close tie on WXKW.... so, there is really no excuse for it.... But I know those guys are cleanin' up down there... the times they are-a changin'.... probably more to come would be my guess.....

Arbitrons are a crap shoot ... a couple of tenths or a point up and down is normal.
That's why there are 2 book averages. Both WAYV and WFPG and WMGM (all 50 Kw'ers)
have been beated in the past by 3 KW 99.3 WMID-FM and 3 KW 106.3 WKOE ...
it's the luck of the draw. Sometimes you get lucky and a contest winner or
all day listener gets a book. Arbitrons aren't as scientific as you may think.
WFPG and WAYV didn't do anything remarkably different - they are both good
stations and have been in the top spots for years.

Starting in 2007 - this market will be "People Metered" no more diaries.

I can't disagree with you on the accuracy of the "diary"... however I think that a lite rock should be far enough ahead of a Hot AC to not be knocked by a couple of tenths of a point.... FPG is aging with it's audience... it's getting 65+ people, and that's not a good thing for them... those people should be with MID or CMC... or 98.3... time to ditch James Taylor and Carole King... time to add Ce Ce Penniston.... and the like.... Can't wait to see what happens with the people meter.. that will be interesting

arbitron is crap. Probably not enough diaries in the right places because cat country doesn't have nearly
the signal over land that FPG does and they exploded. also, FPG is coming off a huge fall book which included christmas music. :-\

Cat Country went non-directional last year - and the signal is at least 90% of WFPGs on the
coverage map ... the extra height helps WPUR, and of course the extra power helps WFPG -
but the signals are comparable. WPUR picked up big time in Western Atlantic, as well as
Cumberland and even Salem County, where it couldn't be heard before.
It went from 1.5 KW to 13,500 KW to the West. There is more to the Cat story than
the luck of the draw.

Tom... are they totally non-directional??? the signal is really good... I was on 295 near 195 (Trenton) and got it in... a bit choppy, but to get it at all was saying something....
