WFPG's monster signal

nd2023

How does WFPG go very far when the tropo hits, and other similar-powered stations don't. I could hear WFPG loud and clear on Long Island, and in most of New Jersey when there's tropo, even just 8 miles from New York City. During normal conditions, I get WFPG weak 75 miles from Atlantic City.

One key component is that they don't have 1st adjacent competition at 96.7 and 97.1 in most areas. As a kid, I'd "borrow" dad's FM radio and I used to listen to the "Budweiser Beachcomber Show" from the Steel Pier weeknights in Pottstown PA. That's a 100 mile flight. I'd tune in that and WIBG-FM at 94.1 and Ron Diamond on WIFI 92.

When I used to work in West Chester, some mornings I woul dbe able to sit in the parking lot and get most, if not all, AC/CMC stations. Yes, even WILW, WCZT, WAIV and WSJQ. Oh yeah, as well as the Buzz-lets. BOTH OF THEM! Usually, I could get WSOX, but on those mornings The Touch came in like gangbusters. EVen WFPG, with no beat-up from WLAN.

WFPG has no significant interfering co-channel to the north.

It does have first adjacent 97.1 QHT in NYC, which depending on the receiver will interfere more or less as you approach the city.

About the only real problem FPG has is LAN in Lancaster.
