WFRQ Moving East to Hyannis

John Garabedian's Codcomm Inc. is already making signal moves out on the Cape, Fybush had it this week.

WFRQ is currently running 6kw at 83 meters on 101.1 from the Mashpee Industrial Park. The application is to move 9 or so miles east to the WPXC et. al. tower in Hyannis, then raise the height to 141 meters and drop the power to 2.9kw.

As Scott pointed out, that'll create quite a bit of overlap with simulcast WFQR Harwich Port, meaning it's pretty likely that the simulcast will end at some point.
 
Yes I had mentioned a little while back that it's on 2 stations to help reach the entire Cape;
now one may wind up flipping, who knows.

In theory, this change will make 101.1's signal similar to 102.9's. 1 meter = 3.28 feet, so this means the two stations will probably be running separate antennas with 101.1's about 9.84 feet above 102.9's, unless I am reading something wrong. Also, 101.1 would be running only 200 watts less than 102.9. I assume there are no issues with this move on needing to protect co-channel class B WGIR-FM serving Manchester, NH.

Nope. 0.3m = ~1' (not 9.84'). Unless one or both of the stations is/are directional, it appears that they will be sharing an antenna. The slight difference in height might be due to rounding or differences in surveying.
 
All this sounds interesting...thanks for the posts! Did you know the GM of Cape Cod Nassau stations (PIXY - Frank) resigned? His last day is May 31st. Looks like he is jumping the ship!

That's pretty typical, and not surprising. When new ownership comes in, so does new management.

Oops. For some reason I read it as 3m instead of .3m. Even at almost 10 feet, I figured a separate antenna that close together was pushing it. I would have to agree it will be sharing the same antenna. Good catch.
