WFSB Going HD

I like the humor he put into the article about how different the anchors will look in high definition! I believe the screen shot of a much younger Denise D'Acenzo comes from WJW-TV (FOX) channel 8 of Cleveland, back when it was a CBS affiliate.

Quite the humorous post from Dennis. :) I'm happy it's been officially confirmed they're going HD. So now once they do, all local news in the Hartford/New Haven market will be HD.

Not quite. I think the news on WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 is considered enhanced SD.

Nope, WTNH is definitely HD. It was from April-October 2010 they were enhanced SD, and in October they made the HD jump.

CPTV announced Saturday that UConn womens' basketball games will be in HD next season. Same for the game on senior night next week.

I can tell you this. After seeing channel 99 on Cablevision, starting tomorrow, WFSB's HD signal goes on...on channel 3 and 701.

In addition, WTNH-HD goes on that same date on 8 and 698. In terms of CT stations, that only leaves WCCT-20 (worst.station logo.EVER!) and the waste of bandwidth called WSAH for CT stations and WLIW (AFAIK) and WLNY for NYC stations. Would care less about WRNN another waste of a signal.

Well for CBS programming full screen HD. CBS News even has the FSB Fairfield County bar. Saw it during the Early Show, which I usually don't watch. For the news, I get the vertical black bars but the signal is clear. WTNH...full HD all the way.

Just checked them out. Sure enough? They are! Same set, but different graphics packages now. Every wrinkle is going to show up on Kara Sundlun-House's face now!

Seriously, if WFSB-TV is the market leader in most day parts, why couldn't they have been HD from the moment they opened their Rocky Hill, CT studio in 2007?

It may have not been in the budget at the time. But I am also surprised that WFSB is just going HD now while everyone else is HD. Without having HD it didn't seem to harm their ratings tho.

Also are the other Meredith owned tv stations newscasts already in HD or not yet?

The other stations have got to be upset that they spent money on going on HD long before WFSB and WFSB still beats them!

Watched WFSB's HD debut yesterday, and picture quality is quite sharp. :) I'm very impressed, and happy now that ALL local news in the Hartford/New Haven market is HD now.
