WFSB-TV 50th Special? Yes? No?

Is WFSB-TV (CBS) channel 3 of Hartford going to air a 50th anniversary special or not? Seeing as they produced a 40th anniversary show (which I still have somewhere), I don't see why not.

As for that 1980 clip, I've seen the latter two (Hilton and the sports team at Muzzy Field in Bristol). However, I hadn't seen the ones with Don and Adrianne. Cool! Did you work for channel 3 back then or something? The quality on these clips isn't bad for 1980, really.

The good quality promos is from someone named eyeontv who works in the TV business. He has a large collection of TV stuff on YouTube.

I just heard Mark Dixon say tune into WFSB Sunday at 11 on Face the State to see video of the 50th.

Thanks Bill! So let me get this straight? They're relegating their 50th Anniversary Special to their Sunday morning public affairs show? At least there was a 1 hour prime time special for their 40th anniversary in 1997 (still have that in my collection somewhere).

According to Dennis House's blog at wfsb.com, newscasts in October and November will have anniversary interviews with Pat Sheehan, Gayle King, Don Noel and others.

The 15 minute special on Face The State this morning was very good. It included video of President Johnson giving a speech in front of Broadcast House, Brad Davis' dance show, Ranger Andy, Bob Steele's sign on and Al Terzi with dark hair on the original 1974 Eyewitness News set. The segment also contained quick interviews with former reporters Gerry Brooks, John Sablon, Hilton Kaderli and former news director Richard Ahles. I am guessing that Channel 3 will post the video on its site.

KLM - You captured some of the same frames that I did. :) Because I'm older, I captured a few more. Yes, I remember watching Ranger Andy and Brad Davis as a kid. I also remember the weather being hand-written on a matrix, which was the procedure until the Post-Newsweek days in 1974.

I hope they interview these 1960s newscasters in October and November - Dick Bartel and Bill Hennessey.

Thats a good site WFSB put on there website. I like looking at those old pics of 3

I will concur with that statement. Nice job 3! In one of the segments we even heard one of the old Eyewitness News themes from the mid 1990's. Well put together. The site's nice too--and it's interesting to see the development of the "3" logo. But that picture of Al Terzi with his Joe Willy Namath hair back in the day--YIPE! Then again it was 1974.

Channel 8--you've got a challenge ahead of you next summer for the big 6-0!

The 10 min. video showing WFSB from the past till today was great. Showed everything about Channel 3 and how much they have done. Great video to the editor who put that together. I see they got Gary Brooks who used to work at Channel 3 years ago to talk in the video.

Channel 8 is going to be 60 didn't think they were that old. Maybe 55 but 60 dang. So how old is Channel 30 WVIT?
