WFSU selling 94.5 in Fort Walton to The Ticket?

Looking around and stumbled across this:

http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/prefill_and_display.pl?Application_id=1396028&Service=FX&Form_id=345&Facility_id=145151

Looks like your old buddy Hale is buying 94.5 to simulcast 1400 AM from the little towers on Hollywood.

The purchase price has been redacted, but the attachment says 20k$.

I'm surprised that FSU is selling, but Fort Walton was already well served by the local NPR, WUWF, before FSU put the 94.5 translator on.

Hey Rob, what's on 94.5 now?

I'm too lazy to look up the rest of FSU's translators.  Have they sold any others?  I thought they had a CP for 97.3 in or near Destin.

we get complaints from people in Destin and Sandestin trying to listen to WFLF (94.5)....we have a great signal (signal strength) there since it is straight over the water but the interference from the FSU 94.5 translator limits our coverage west of Sandestin.

Well, what are you going to do to fix that?

What will happen when they pump up the power to 250 watts and bring K-Rock back to FWB?

Oh Hale. I didnt even know the translator existed. I gotta give it to Hale. Then again, where's he going to come up w/ $20k?

I've lived in the panhandle for 25 years and this is the first I have ever heard about 94.5 in Ft. Walton. Is this a new station that just came on the air or has it been around for a while? I didn't know two 94.5's could be that close together.

(I used to live in Panama City and remember all the format changes 94.5 went through there starting with when it was T-94, they went country, they were Z-Rock, a gospel station, back to country, Beach 94.5, and I can't remember what else after that. Just thought I would throw that in.)

it's a translator....not a "real" station....other rules apply to separation between "real" stations and translators....

94.5 here is WFLA Talk Radio. Next to Olive Garden, it's NPR.

having these LP FM translators is stupid. My friend who lives 3 miles from the sticks told me the 89.1 station comes in much clearer then the 94.5 stick. What I don't understand is why not apply for a 100KW stick as we do need an NPR station (88.1 isn't a true NPR)

..whats the point of spending the money in the first place? To cover 3 houses and a small part of 98??

Ron should relocate to 99.1 if he plans on putting the Ticket on there and apply for a 100KW permit. Pensacola is lacking big time for a sports station. Bring back classic rock on 100.3

99.1 seems like an open frequency here.

I think it all has something to do with one rabid and rogue engineery person in that evil Panama City area that won't let anyone get a 100kw station, rob anymore. Ron, not rob, Ron should call Wooten and get this mess fixed. Do you neeed his number?

Hey experts (Mr. Wooten), how much money do you think WFSU spent getting the 94.5 translator on the air? How much would the transmitter, antenna, and all that copper wire cost? It seems like $20k is a very reasonable price for this translator. Why didn't Clear Channel offer $25k to make their coverage problems in south Walton go away?

Apparently some of the new 250 watt translators in Atlanta and Montgomery are on tall towers and have coverage areas equal to Class A FMs. With the short towers in FWB, I doubt they'll get outside the city limits with 94.5.

Does anyone know of other AMs that are trying to launch FM translators in the panhandle? It seems like Defuniak Springs and Chipley would be good candidates for them.

We couldn't own it....the translator regulations wouldn't allow us to use it to extend our coverage....you can do a translator for about $5-10K....I think Magic PC is buying or has bought a translator on 92.9 for their 1290 "AM blow torch"....

Clear Channel couldn't buy the 94.5 translator and "cripple it' by lowering the power or placing a low quality antenna about 10 feet up the tower (while still rebroadcasting WFSU)?

Could you have used it to broadcast the WNTM-AM feed from WRKH-HD2? Or put WKGC-HD2 on it? (again, with a crippled or directional to the west signal)

If you had control over it, could you move it further away from Destin... like to a cell phone tower in Navarre or Crestview?

Was there really nothing Clear Channel could do about it? Or did corporate just not care?

You fixed WPAP during hurricane Dennis, it seems like this would only take a phone call and a couple of letters from a lawyer.

It is kinda strange that WFLF-FM can jump right over 94.5 in FWB and put the same old signal into Pensacola.

NO TIBBS! NO!!! DON'T GIVE ROB MY NUMBER !

You are forcing me to do this. I have no choice. Hale must get 94.5 to 100,000 watts and go sports. You guys have enough signals already. He has none.

Rob - CCENGS cell # - of course (international #) BR-549-8675309 (Rob, I think you Really can ask for Jenny, just add a Woo on the end when you use the directorly.)

Also, ask for the strobey department. Maybe you can get your wish of color options now. Times, they are a changin.

I think the call is free. Rob, make sure you have a roll of aluminum foil to hear better.

that ain't it....I pity the poor soul that has to talk to Rob....

As for the "real" number -

I have it
You know I do
But, Charlie, I still wanna drink beer and gin with you
So, I'll keep it to myself and hope Rob will just come through
And ask for a little ole tour of 1834 Lisenby Avenue.
