Heard in a promo:

"We're NOT 610... we don't just cover Miami"

"We're NOT 1290... we don't just cover West Palm Beach"

I'm reminded of a talk station in Tampa in the mid-90's that placed billboards around town, showing ALL of its competitors frequencies at the top, and its own at the bottom...

That station was gone in six months...

Bear,

Was that WYTA (the old WRFA station?)

I knew a gentleman that worked there in its gospel days..and understand
that the talk foray basically ran the elderly owner into a forced sale
to Paxon..
______________
Proudly remembering the days of the hometown "country giant" radio stations now at

820? I think it was...

Yeah - and during and after Wilma, while WFTL was off the air, "610" was broadcasting information on stations in the Keys, all the way up to Port St Lucie. And no, 610 wasn't just covering "Miami". Even in non-storm situations, I suspect more of their news is about Broward, since probably that's where the majority of their listeners live and work.

Personally, I was also thinking of WSUN-AM 620, which, I think, was also very briefly talk, before selling the station and becoming a "Bay News 9" simulcast (as WSAA). "Entertaining talk radio" was its slogan.

Or did a country revival (also short-lived) come between talk and BN9? Don't know for certain.

Who, in turn, sold all of his stations (including 820, which was all-sports WZTM) to Clear Channel for seed money to start up Pax. And look where THAT ended up today.

820 was later sold to Mega, becoming hispanophone "Mega 820" (WMGG).

Exact working is "we dont just SERVE Miami. We don't just SERVE WPB."

The idea? WFTL's signal covers both WPB and Miami markets. It's to point out that neither WIOD or WJNO can serve "all" of South Florida. It also pigeon holes the stations into their COL. And, based on ratings, most WFTL listeners already know about 610 and 1290. :)

How well does WFTL serve Broward at night, since its interference free contour, as shown on the FCC map, only reaches Boca Raton?

So you are saying that WIOD only "serves" Miami? Interesting, since WIOD continues to beat WFTL - in WFTL's home market of West Palm. As noted before on this board, there are plenty of "flame-throwers" with no worthwhile ratings. WFTL is one them. Good night.

Would that be AM 820 WYTA? LOL. Was it even on six months? I was there and I only remember three or four, lol.
______________

Really? How would you know the idea?

You sound amazingly knowledgeable for a disinterested party.

And like the others before me, based on what ratings??

1) Who said it was based on ratings? When you have none, you can try anything, right?

2) Who says I'm a "disinterested" party?

Y'ever consider an all-Elvis format? ;)
