WFTL's Kelly Mitchell Reporting From Texas This Week

So WFTL's Kelley Mitchell, having lost her
afternoon talk show on WFTL, is spending
all week this week covering the refugees
in one of the stadiums in Texas. (I
forget which.)

Waste of resources? Do south Florida
listeners really need this? They can
hear and see plenty of such reports on
TV and radio networks.

Or does it matter if James Crystal wastes
its resources?

After all, the company is also a Jaguar
dealer. She could stay in Texas for a week
for less than the profit margin on even one
Jaguar, I'll bet.

WFTL would be better off spending money putting a real website together, perhaps adding live streaming, perhaps doing something other than airing all the second-rate conservatalk shows that can't get on JNO and IOD...Their best ratings were before they moved away from all-news to daytime syndicated talk shows...

You haven't listened to Boortz, then.

He's NOT conservative.

Not an apologist for the religious right.

He's a LIBERTARIAN!

Besides, I'll take any of the second-stringers on WKAT
or WFTL over Clear Channel's fair-haired boy, Schnitt.

WIOD live from Gulf Coast

Listening to WIOD this morning - heard live reports from their own Aron Bender as well as former ABC reporter Andrew Colton, who I swear I heard co-anchoring some of IOD's Hurricane Katrina coverage. Don't know if he's hired by WIOD or Clear Channel, or maybe he's just an independent contractor, but that's quite a coup having him aboard. BTW, I agree with FloridaBear, FTL had something unique, now they are "Me, too" although I don't think they ever had any ratings. Heck - IOD beats them in their home market of West Palm!

WFTL's one-page one-graphic web site is a joke, and has
been so for about six months, I think.

See cartoon #4 in Talk Radiooo.

I'd guess a lot more listeners (and advertisers) are concerned
about that than about having someone stationed in Texas.

I'd rather have Kelly doing local talk than reporting
from Texas. Now the closest to local talk in this
market is brokered Steve Kane and Todd Schnitt in Tampa.

I don't think they've kept any local talk, but I haven't
been able to confirm this.

Re: WIOD live from Gulf Coast

I suspect they have dumped all local talk. I didn't hear Joyce Kaufman this past Sunday in her morning slot.

Is the PD still there?

I've listened to Boortz. He hasn't cracked many big markets outside the South, although he's in every nook and cranny of Georgia thanks to WSB and several other affiliates around that state. As non-Southern as South Florida is, Boortz seems a strange choice. Though I'm sure the 'price' is right.

As for Schnitt, he at least departs from the talking points once in a while, he can talk about hurricanes without sounding like a total idiot, and he showed up the entire talk radio industry on Schiavo.
