Pensacola/Fort Walton WFTW Ft Walton going silent

Sad news for my area. WFTW 1260, 107.5, and 96.5 HD2 are officially going silent as of noon tomorrow, 3/28/25. The AM had been on the air since 1953. On air personality Dan Diamond explained Cumulus Media had announced they were closing 23 stations, and 'FTW is included. They were a great source for local news and information, weather and "go fund me" type drives to help people in need. They filled a public service niche that nobody else did. R.I.P. A sign of the times.

With all of the AM stations around the country going silent, it would be great if the FCC would open (and leave open) a window for filing. It would not generate too much traffic but would be away for some stations to take advantage of the holes appearing in the band.

Why not just simulcast Pensacola sister station WCOA on WZNS 96.5 HD2 and W298CV 107.5?
That's a great idea. WCOA 1370 used to come in real well here, but not any more. They are much weaker for some reason. They once were about as strong as 1330 WEBY. Someone had told me they lowered the tower height a few feet so it wouldn't require lights. But for whatever reason they aren't as strong as before.
