wow i can't believe Radio One is chopping up the 100kw stick to move south to the WFXC tower with half the watts. Why not Move the Tower to the WFXK location and keep the 100k, they would still serve the raliegh durham area, unless they wanted to steal a few of WZFX's Listeners by moving the tower further south. If you look at most of the Urbans in NC...WZFX..Fayetteville, WMNX Willimngton, WPEG, Charlotte are all 100k sticks.!!....so why chop WQOK's Power??

Also isn't it about time that WFXC 107.1 upgrade their power as well, then maybe turn 104.3 to jazz,

ALSO DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY HISTORY ON WQOK AND WFXC AND WHO THE ORIGINAL OWNERS WERE.??

I Heard on here that CC were the original owners of WQOK and all the rest of radio ones raleigh stations i could be wrong though

If my memory is correct, WFXC was originally owned by Duke University! Many moons ago. It was Don Curtis who took it commercial and put FXC on the air. Curtis sold the station after several years and used the cash to buy into a number of NC markets.

CC did indeed own K-97.5, Foxy, and 103.9 The Light until 2000 when they were forced to sell them after picking up Sunny 93.9 (now 93.9 Kiss FM), Oldies 100.7 (now 100.7 The River), G105, and 106.1 RDU (now 106.1 The Rooster), at which point they sold to Radio One. I don't know who owned them before CC, although I have also heard that WFXC was originally a Duke-owned station. In fact, I remember when K97 and Foxy used to stream over the Internet in their CC days (before the legal issues popped up and forced streaming stations to put streaming on hold). WDUR 1490, which was simulcasting The Light at that time before CC sold it, simply switched to simulcasting WTRG after The Light was sold.
Speaking of WDUR, has anyone heard anything new concerning that station and its current broadcast partner WTSB?

Don Curtis did own WFXC in the 80s under the company Great American Media. According to the Curtis Media Group website, "In September 1987, Great American Media sold the Durham stations (WDUR-WFXC) for $6.5 million, just 18 months after purchasing these properties for $2.8 million."

Hey guys If my memory serves me correct QOK signed on July of 86... I was able to pick up QOK since WCOS in Columbia was still on 97.9 at the time... I first caught QOK stunting with a loop that went something like music power 97QOK and it went on and on till that Monday morning when they launched the station... Tom Joyner owned WQOK who also owned Foxy 99 in Fayetteville as well... Oddly enough I wanna say the first song QOK played was Sledge Hammer by Peter Gabriel... I know that is crazy, but that song was getting decent airplay even on WWDM in SC... As for FXC I am no help there, but I hope the rest is correct if not somebody can correct me :)... CC1

From what I remember reading in the News and Observer before it was WFXK, they didn't have a good enough signal from there. This is why they paired with WFXC.

Technically they can’t. They have to reduce power for this move as they would be severely short spaced with about 6 other stations if they remained a C1.

Radio One has filed an application to increase power to 7.5kw from the current location and changin the status to a C3.
