WFXV doesn't carry the Bills game.

According to the net WFXV ( FOX Utica) was the only station in New York not to carry the Bills game. They ran the Redskins game instead. Meanwhile the neighboring Oneida Nation - has been protesting the Washington Redskins organization as racists. So did Nexstar do this to P. O. the Oneidias off are to give them free publicity?

Seems to me like WFXV could have had higher ratings with the Buffalo Bills, but perhaps the Oneidas coughed up enough cash to get them to run the Redskins instead.

WIBX noticed this too, and questioned it -- with no answers from the station. On its website, WIBX posted a photo of a TV showing members of the Oneidas standing outside the stadium, as aired on Fox.

I get the feeling the Oneidas somehow knew (or were at least guessing) they would wind up on TV, and wanted to make sure it'd be seen in their own "home" market. Wouldn't surprise me if the OIN offered Nexstar more than enough money to make it worth their while to take the game, even though they knew the ratings wouldn't be quite the same as a Bills game. They likely have more money than any other local client who aired spots during the game.

Will be interesting to see if the OIN gets WFXV to keep airing Redskins games (when available) or if this was just a one-time thing. Also can't help but wonder if they tried to pull this in Syracuse too; if so, kudos to WSYT for standing up for the viewers. While I'm not a Bills fan myself, I understand the strong following in this area... and unless the Bills are blacked out for failing to sell-out, I know people in CNY expect to see them on TV.

Bob thanks for replying and the insight. Being out of the market it raised the curiosity.. No one seemed to have the answers.

Just a guess, don't know for sure. But the Oneidas have pretty deep pockets thanks to the casino and their other ventures, and they have been making quite a media push to try to convince the Redskins to change their name. Just wouldn't surprise me if they offered WFXV enough money to forget about the ratings for at least one week.
