WGAL 105.1 Bubba FM Gainesville

WNGA is a Class A radio station licensed to Helen, GA. It still operates from its original transmitter site north of Helen on Trey Mountain.

There is a CP to go to a C3 at Clermont, the current CP expires in the year 2015, it will be at the discretion of the licensee as to when the station is built out to the CP specs, once it is, then a form 301 is filed, requesting that the facility be licensed.

Now I have a question for you guys... who's yer Bubba?

105.1 has always had a very long range to the south. It broadcasts from the third highest broadcast point in the state, so there is nothing that stops it toward Atlanta except for the curvature of the earth. Mr. Smithgall, the person that signed the station on once said that on a clear night, you can see the lights of Atlanta from the transmitter site. I have never witnessed that, that may be because every night I have had to go up there, the weather was less than pleasant.

Remember, the most important factor in FM coverage is height above average terrain.

Are you currently broadcasting using the higher power of the CP?

Well KJ... if you are going to be the spokesperson for helping us understand things, there is another point you could help us with.

I think the last time I looked through the FCC reports, there was a construction permit to relocate the transmitter from North of Helen to North of Dahlonega and change the city of license. (Clermont?)

There have been postings indicating short bursts of transmitter testing from the North of Dahlonea site, but when you describe the view of the place where Mr. Smithgall could see Atlanta, and that clarified version of the voicing of the station ID, are you reporting to us that the current BUBBA FM signal is coming from the site North of Helen using the currently licensed location rather than the CP authorized facility?
If I read the CP correctly, the CP is higher power from the same facility/tower, with the CoL change to Clermont.

If WNGA is using the same 1700W from the same location, it sure sounds better than it used to. And 7000W from that location (roughly a quadrupling of power, so double the coverage) should sound awesome.

Thanks for the heads-up. I had not looked at the CP application file lately. Apparently they had worked on getting changes based on the current location, then they filed for a CP that would have moved the transmitter location to just north of Dahlonega, and now they have an even newer application which has been approved that keeps the station at the old/current location with the new power level.

I'm out of breath from reading the applications. ;D
