WGBF Stories

With Buddy Scott, Harry Lyles, Sandman, Angela Allen, Bwana Johnny, and others we need to know.

Having never shared this story I feel the compulsion or need and note the statute of limitations makes this revelation unremarkable.

"and now a letter from Sue in Newburgh, she writes: At what period in time did the manager get a call from a listener (lucky listener?) who went out on a date with the morning man complaining? The morning guy had reportedly tied her to a bed had his way with her (but) (there's more) and left her tied to the bed, then left. After she yelled loud enough a neighbor came by heard her screaming and untied her, reportedly...Casey, who did it?"

There was the time we did a drive by guerilla remote at Schnucks when Rip was WYNG's manager. Schnucks was a BIG WYNG client. June nearly killed Chip and Me. Remember the Buick Grill in my face after we moved rather than die for AM Radio.

Or the time I was helping out the owner of East Park (and WGBF) by promoting his place on the air. He also rented movies. Made the mistake of asking if he still had dirty movies behind the curtain. LIVE RADIO. LOOOOONG Pause. You'll have to ask uncle Joe about that...

The WKDQ Dumpster. WSTO features mid 50's Elvis to counter oldies on AM. We annouce on air when WIKY starts beautiful music tracks....

NEXT!

Marty.... Where's Chip? Back in Chicago area? Miss him from the Carbondale days..... As the high school ego-idiot in '75-'76, I still garnered most of my radio philosophy from Wood, Scott and Don Newburg... I remember "Rip" threatning to have anyone fired for pouring old coffee and coffee grounds down the water fountain drain! Come to think? Wheeler taught me more about news just observing, than two broadcast degrees! Loved gathering the AP news stuff and making police calls on Sunday mornings (while public affairs and church stuff was on)...Then typing some stories to give Mark Molton at 11:30am..... Then coming back at 6:pm to run AT-40 in the old three hour format, followed by Wolfman Jack and later the National Album Countdown! Cash Cruiser turning into the Crash Cruiser on my graduation day... Wood doing sock hops at United Skates of America (where Bryan Wallace, Ken's son and Scott Blake, Charlie's son worked, as well as me).... Magic time... Terry in ENG with his close friend Kirby...'Nuff said there.... Buster Bradley coming down from WERK and WIFE..... Scott Wheeler coming down from Indy on weekends to do a few airchecks... Jim Lupus serving as the contract guy with Terry G...... Great time, gang.. Even for the Sunday morning, Sunday night program button pusher.. At least Wood would send me out to chase bumper stickers in the primed painted Datsun...... Steeveeeee Ohhhh-Bryyyyy-Ann (former Steve Frame from WJPS)...He may have studdered off mic, but did not miss a lick on mic.... :p

" Yes Sue, Steve Migdon Obryan was a morning at WGBF in 1986, Thanks for the letter, and now...back to the countdown." (nothing but a dog comin - a Greyhound)

In no particular order here is the compilation of WGBF:

Men in Black (cars). Mafia? Vanderburgh County looses phone service. money, listeners, Rockford looses it's mind. Greg Gorham RentedPanelTruckRoofholeOuch. Greiger say "Hello Buddy" from the ceiling vent while Buddy was "interviewing" a groupie. Joe Brad Randy Brent. Hearing yelling in the lobby at 11pm, quietly dialing police and acting like nothing's wrong..Shelby fighting off the Police Dog when he wouldn't leave the building. Is Clyde Rickets still alive? Irwin Schoeny mowing the grass in 1981. Irwin mowing the grass again in 1986. "I was here before you came and I'll be here after you're gone." Lonnie and Les Shively. Tower 2's top section buried in the field twice. " Is Migdon living in his office?" You CAN file for bankruptcy every 7 years. Dick is a noun and verb Steurwald. CPA wants to do the weekend talent. "Her mouth looks like it was made for my.." PD tries to do the weekend talent despite age differential. Weekend talent doesn't show up for shift. Called her mom to see where she is "Never coming back what kind of sick &^sta$ds are you people. She's underage and how old is that guy, 40?" Old Man looses mind in the cave."They didn't have a bathroom in the building and they peed in the floor of the production room" WGBF FM post WHKC. Bruce Clark eat my shorts says the child. So what are you selling on Green Street in those paper sacks? (Wonder why the studios really moved to Evansville?) Idiots take over the asylum. "There's only ONE Stan and Sam Show." Anthoston - Tick Check. like selling a radio at Target. Sunny 1280. Fake Yugo Contest. Larry Aiken looses his mind and any cash he had. Sale, another sale, then maybe another?

Chief... It really does make the story lines of WKRP look 'weak and limp'..... I can think of more.. Blush... But the blowout of the phones and the two way complaints from the local two way dealer *Use your d$%m call signs, kids!*... Wow, all in a decade! Curt Matthews! Where did Schwartz end up after St. Louis? Who was the space cowboy? My mind wonders and I always laugh when driving by St. Mary's and Dr. Tuley's office on Washington Avenue.... Geronimo fired over a 400 buck watts-line bill... The strories go on and on...... ;D

Don Geronimo. WOW So many indy jocks bounced around Evansville. Scott Wheeler is still on the air here daily at B 105.7.

On Scott... Jim invited him down to do a couple of late night things.. God, he sounded great......I still remember the Magnacord reels to play "Wolfman"... And the dial up remote to power up and power down... Loved that part of the job.. The bug to learn engineering...
