WGBN 1150

I see the One Tower is at least 25% Taller than the other for WGBN aka WKPA 1150, Is that Because WYDD 104.7 was on it?

Yes, and if I remember correctly the largeer tower was not actually used as the second element. I think they used a wire, insulated from the tower. This was suspended from about halfway up the taller unit. I saw this at a site near Ocean City, Mr.

Yep, it was a shunt-fed radiator. They did it to avoid crossing the base insulator of an AM radiator with the co-ax for the FM. Apart from upsetting the stability of the 2-tower AM DA, it's a cheaper way to address the issue than using a high-power isocoupler.

Haw haw! I'd comment on that but I'm not sure about the statute of limitations for libel in Pennsyltucky, PT....

hypwr, I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, much less my 1978 visit to the WKPA site, but my recollection was the longwire was a shunt. But thinking about it now as I type, that's probably not correct - the wire must have been the radiator. I throw myself on the mercy of the Pittsburgh engineers.

Does Rev. Mann stlll own WGBN?

What happened with his attempt to buy WHKZ/1440 Warren OH from Salem? That fell through with little explanation...

Pastor Mann does still own WGBN. As for WHKZ, Salem either wanted too much for it or he couldn't get financing.

Well, Rev. Mann agreed to whatever price Salem was asking, as he filed an FCC app to buy WHKZ. But I do find it easy to believe that A) Salem's price was too high, and B) he probably had trouble raising the financing for the agreed upon price.

Banks are being told to lend, but they're also being told to lend smart. Radio stations are the last thing they want to deal with...unless there's real estate included and it's the value of the purchase price.

I think Loran might have to do a studio buildout for this one, too. To my knowledge, all HKZ did was repeat programming of HKW in Cleveland, and I don't think simulcasting a New Kensington station would improve its fortunes. $550,000 to me seems to be a lot to ask for just an AM stick with no billing of its own or even a whole broadcast facility.

WHKZ occasionally runs separate programming from WHKW...mostly church services, non-simulcast infomercials, and a live airing of Warren's own Hugh Hewitt weeknights.

Not sure, but I believe they run the separate WHKZ programming out of a studio in Independence. I'm pretty sure you're right, and 1440 has nothing but a transmitter site in the Valley.
