According to the WGBY website, Channel 57 (analog) will be shutting down at 11:59 PM tonight (Nov. 5th) for keeps. Apparently, due to the upcoming winter weather atop Mt. Tom in Holyoke, they will be shutting down 57 in order to remove the analog antenna and replace it with a new Channel 22 (DTV) antenna for the scheduled Feb. 17th analog sunset. If you've got an over-the-air antenna (not on cable or satellite) and a VHS or DVD recorder, it might be a good idea to roll some tape or disc for tonight. This is historical. I was in Amherst last Sunday night and had a chance to check out 57 for one more time, using my color watchman. Channel 57 still seems to have the best signal in the area, even better than co-located Channel 40 (WGGB). It's too bad analog is going away so fast. WGBY will continue on 58 (DTV) until the analog sunset on Feb 17th. At 11:59:59 PM on the 17th, WWLP 22 will cease analog operations. At midnight, WGBY will switch to Channel 22 DTV. That would be quite a thing to witness.
Wish I could watch WGBY's analog sunset tonight. Too bad I live too far away.
