WGCH 1490 Greenwich for sale

$1.25 million for a graveyard AM? Good luck with that. The station is a dog. Take it dark.

Didn't they unsuccessfully try to move the tower to a new location in Greenwich a few years ago?

Shouldn't you mean, "put it to sleep"? ::)

You're right, though - steep asking price for a limited stick.

Big question: does that include the Land and the studio IE Real estate? if so thats not actually a bad deal with real estate values in Greenwich.

Ask the 1st selectmen on Fridays for all the town workers is probably one of the most listened to shows on this as well as Redsox programming on GCH. Any chance COX would buy it for a lower price? Remember,we have the twotranslator 103.1's FM in Greenwich and Stamford that are going to waste at the moment within City Grade signal of this station... DJ: how much for the 103.1 in Greenwich? My dream a LP-FM Active Rock covering the Greenwich area on AM/FM that would be pretty cool IMHO

The ad for WGCH that is linked to the original post states that no real estate is included in the deal.
Furthermore the buyer would have to pay for the lease on the tower.
Less than 10 miles away in southern Westchester County, the station comes in weak, with static.

I'm out then...

GCH is probably being sold because the rent is way too damn high.. if the price were lower and I owned it here is what I would do: I'd consider moving the studios and work with AT&T to have the transmitter moved to the Old Greenwich Train station with the cell tower there (the bigger t-moble one) and studios in Old Greenwich pending FCC approval, of course. Moving the transmitter a few miles east should not have much of a problem I don;t think. (ED) any chance that WGCH's transmitter could be shared with 1400 WSTC's location in stamford. That would be a money savior but would that move be too much for a COL change away from greenwich?
Just throwing in my thoughts.

I would think from a strictly technical standpoint that if it was possible to diplex 1490 into the 1400 antenna (which from the last time I saw it consisted of a skirt wire system on the tower). I know WSHU-AM (the former WMMM 1260) is looking at co-locating to WFIF's site and diplexing into their towers. There's a much greater frequency difference there.

I don't recall what the required signal to the COL is but I would think it should be attainable since the physical difference between to two cities isn't that much. Of course, it's pure speculation on my part.

1400 is still skirted as of a few months ago.

1260 did apply to co-locate to the WFIF site but was dismissed by the FCC for having too much prohibited overlap to WBNR. They have not filed an amended engineering exhibit or reapplied to move, since the dismissal at the start of the month.

whoever gets this station, or if they keep it should look into the two 103.1 FM's in the area. I believe both of them are within GCH's COL.

From the Greenwich Time dated Saturday evening 7/2/11...

WGCH used to be the go-to resource for live coverage of the Representative Town Meeting and other elected bodies, but moved away from that programming model.

"Mo money, mo money, mo money!" ;D

The place has been bled dry.
Word is that a sale is around the corner, but not for a lot of money.
Probably between 250 and 300 Thousand.
No real estate, tower leased in a terrible location, tired equipment and minimal staff.

WGCH wouldn't offer any coverage that WSTC doesn't already give WSHU. They'd be better off buying WREF in Ridgefield for some mid and upper Fairfield County coverage.
