WGCI dips in latest ratings

Has anyone seen the latest ratings for WGCI? They are now in fifth place, which is unheard of. Looks like the PD Kris Kelley has some 'planing to do or she will be looking for a new gig. What do you think she has done wrong since she has been there.

I know what the problem is, she came to Chicago thinking she knows the audience, but she didn't. I understand replacing crazy but putting him on for steve harvey was the worst mistake Wgci could do! Everyone knew Steve was on 106.3 we chose not to listen, I sent the VP's at gci a message when they first did the change and told them the ratings were going to go down. I would love to here Sam Silkk or TOny in the mornings. Tony did great in his time slot, but the morning show will continue to do terrible! V103 did better than WGCI, I listen to KIss FM now, i use to listen to both stations but now I keep my radio on DREX's! At least it was health competition between GCI and KISS now their is none! What will be WGCI next move; I know keep Steve Harvey in New YOrk for the smaller audiences that he has and bring back someone from Chicago! Oh and take Frankie Robinson off of the evening show and bring back Mike LOve! They should have kept him and got him a new parnter!

I am not surprised.

Could it be that GCI is a stale product and they made changes for the worst? I don't think this focuses on Steve Harvey directly. Remember they are saving $$$ in the end for not having a local morning show and I am sure they won't be quick to drop Harvey. Here is some other reason why GCI is falling.

Their mix show(s) changed for the worst

They never air house music anymore... Bad if you are a heritage Chicago station that dedicated time to the house capital of the world at one time.

Mike Love got fired.

Their midday host Bionce Foxx is annoying beyond belief. I am sure either you like her or have to turn her voice talking over songs off after 30 minutes.

They super edit most of their hip-hop songs.

They ignore the local talent in the city and refuse to give them air time. I am sure that is the big one. Sure they do promotional conferences to get people started but I think the biggest knock on GCI is that they never discover or air Chicago home grown talent.

They are at a rock and a hard place. Can't be squeaky clean R&B and the default hip-hop station at the same time. If you do, you better hope your talent covers that up and I think it is being exposed.

The more surprising thing is Power 92 is not gaining the audience. They must be going somewhere. If I was Power though this would be a perfect opportunity to do the things GCI is not.

WGCI not airing much House Music anymore (if at all) started with Elroy Smith coming into the market. He only did it at one time because of pressure from the listeners and Armando Rivera. Now it looks like Kris Kelley would have a little more sense than Elroy did and add more House to WGCI's mix shows on the weekends instead of this "Friday Night Live" crap. Also, get some NEW mixers!!!

In terms of the editing of songs, that started under Elroy too. I have noticed it isn't as bad since he (elroy) isn't there anymore. I think Ms. Kelley needs to research her market a lot better or she is going to be looking for another job.

You sound like me... I list to Drex too in the morning and the power mix at 8am on wpwx.. That was a very bad move for wgci--

chicago, illinose is the, house captial ,of the world and gets, little radio play im glad kiss playing it, gci, b96, power92, dont put it in mix enought big props to kiss fm unstanding what house capital needs

The real problem is GCI is not owned by Gannet INC anymore ever since Clear Channel took them over they did what they do
too every station ignore what the audience wants and increase there profit. Then comes the second part of the problem if you
turn to KISS FM guess what? Your listening to another Clear Channel station. I would not put all the blame on the new program
director the blame needs to be placed on radio consolidation, and people who do not know the history of Chicago radio running
the stations from the corporate office.

This is so true. V103 also (IMO) regressed after Clear Channel put their stamp on it. It had a much better sound in the pre-CC days. It had a Chicago sound ("Dusties"). Now it sounds much closer to your stereotypical Urban AC, less dusties to go along with the R-Kelly burnout. As a matter of fact, I believe Soul 106 (outside of Steve Harvey and Michael B) sounds very similar to the old V103.

Urban you are so right V103 sounded much better before CC they played a lot more dusties and because they owned V103
and DUSTY RADIO 1390 which I might add was highly rated for an AM station with a limited signal and I listened to often
even though it was an AM music station was knocked off because they wanted to try and "consolidate" V103'S audience and once they
did that and there was nowhere left to go for dusties and blues they slowly took more and more of the old stuff off V103.

Speaking of WGCI and house, I found this link on youtube, it's a recording of "Club 107.5" from about 1990, some good early 90's house! Edward "Get Down" Crosby does a good set- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhKA3bW7l9o
Which makes me ask, who is spinning house music in the Chicago nowadays? I heard Power 92 and Kiss. It's a shame WGCI doesn't anymore, what's up with that?
