WGCL 46-2 airing alternate NCAA games (also on Comcast 811)

When did WGCL start airing 46-2? Has is always been on?

Anyway, the cool thing they're doing is airing the alternate NCAA games (in Standard Def). The main WGCL feed is in HD of course, but is the national CBS feed and flips around to whatever the most interesting game is at that time.

I discovered this as Comcast has added a new channel (channel 811 "WGCL"), however it's in Standard Def.

I'm thinking this 811 Channel is temporary for the NCAA Tourney. Regardless it's a good move on WGCL's part.

This has occured every year...only this year it is scaled back from the 4 they did the last few years (Analog 46/9, DT 46.1/809, 46.2/811, and 46.3/812 - 810 could not be used because it is WUPA HD. 46.1/809 was a seperate game from analog 46/9, and it was in SD).

I suspect either WGCL having HD news or the economy was the reason for the scaleback. The channel will be deleted after the tournament.

CBS 46 seemed to periodically switch games between their main and sub-channel Friday night. This was very confusing and I wonder if this was a stunt. Maybe their coordination with CBS was amiss.

KPHO in Phoenix did the same thing last year, but like WGCL, is only airing two games at a time this year, on analog 5/5, DT 5.1/705 (HD) and 5.2/85 (SD). There is a claim on the Phoenix board that the contract only allows them to show two games at a time at most.
