WGCL now CBS Atlanta with HD News

As of 11 PM tonight. No more "46" (for now - WGCL was "CBS Atlanta" twice before in 1999 as WGNX and from 2002-2004).
 
Sweet. 46 finally has local news in HD. It looks good and Danielle looks great in HD.

Can someone tell me what was wrong with CBS46? I don't like the CBS Atlanta News logo. The rest of the graphics are a nice upgrade from what they had.

I am digging Enforcer making an appearance in our market. Anything is better than that crap WXIA is playing...
 
Thank goodness!! This look 10x better than the old on-screen appearance. I missed the debut at 11:00 and have just seen pieces from Sportsline. Does anyone have video?

Nice choice for WGCL.

Frank Gari is the KING of news music! In the 80's and all at the same time, WSB used Newschannel, WAGA played Good News and WXIA aired Hello News, all were Gari creations. My all time favorite is the original Newschannel theme Channel 2 used until the logo change in October 1985.

With digital tv around the corner, are they moving away from the analog channel 46 association since their digital channel is different? That may be the reason for the change.

No.

Outside WGCL's engineering department, nobody knows nor cares what their digital channel is. If you're watching with an antenna, you punch in "46" to watch WGCL today, and you'll still punch in "46" to watch them on February 20th. If you're watching on cable or satellite, the number you'll punch in won't change either. (I'm in Nashville so I don't know what that number is...)

I could buy that they dropped "46" because they're acknowledging that most viewers are punching in something other than "46" because they're on cable, but not because of the DTV change. In which case it's purely coincidence they chose to make that branding change now.
