WGCL: Weather expert replaced with actress

Dagmar Midcap, a former actress with zero weather training, has taken over for Gene Norman as chief meterologist ??? at WGCL.

What the hell is WGCL thinking. Calling Dagmar Midcap a meterologist or weatherperson is like calling the former CEOs of Enron humanitarians. Can't Laura Huckabee or Chris Smith take over (or have they fled the coop already).

WGCL needs to close up shop...before things get worse (like another ENG operator having sex with a hooker in a live truck again).
 
Doesnt matter. Does anyone really watch their news anyway?
 
I thought she was just filling in until WGCL names a new chief meterologist? Laura Huckabee would've been perfest for that crappy "Better Mornings" than Dagmar. Chris Smith and Greg Majewski seem to be seasoned metrologist over at CBS 46. Former CBS 46 meterologist John Wetherbee would've been a nice chief over there as well.

He is also operations manager of the Clear Channel radio cluster in Savannah. He still has his syndicated weather service (heard on South 107).

John Wetherbee was Chief Meterologist at then WGNX from 1996-2000 (between Johnny Beckman and Gene Norman). Additionally, he was an midday DJ at Fox 97 at the time (and later Peach/Lite 94.9...then PD of Cool 105.7).

They can't legally call her a meteorologist unless she's certified. When I heard Rodney Ho post that in his blog, I wondered if they did call her that, but I haven't heard the station actually call her a meteorologist. But, if she's the main weather anchor, then they're not alone in the market for putting someone that's not a certified meteorologist as the cheif anchor, but they are guilty of doing it with the person that has the least credibility (barely any time in the market, therefore not a real familiar face).

It's already been mentioned about Dagmar's "assets", and that makes me wonder if that's why they put her there. One evening, I actually tuned in, and her key wall shot was as tight as the anchor's! That means, there was little head room, and the shot was really close (most key wall shots show the knees/thighs to the head, so the weather person can "roam the board") It might've just been the framing for that one night, but it was what is known as a "bust shot" (no pun intended).
 
She actually has experience doing weather, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and on Canada's Global TV Network.

The thing I do like about her is that she doesn't hype the weather (like Glenn Burns) and make a simple forecast of rain seem like Noah's flood (as most TV weather anchors in this market do).
 
If Channel 46 wanted to get a qualified meteorologist to replace Gene Norman, they should go after WAGA weekender Joanne Feldman, she is one class act. She's pleasant, attractive, and really seems to know the weather. They may have trouble getting her though, she hasn't been there that long and is probably still under contract. Free Lancer Orlean Sydney may also be an option too.
 
The say the 'gcl folk been talking you'd think they can put Britney in front of a map and still win. Are they really doing as good in the ratings as they claim?
 
Why don't they just take the news department and close it. Does anyone really watch channel 46 news? I can't imagine anyone with any substance joining the station since it is such a joke around town.

Yeah, I also read in her bio that she got her training at the Canadian equivilent of the Connecticuit School of Broadcasting.... not that there's anything wrong with that. My thing is that she's a) not a real meteorologist, which you can get that degree easily by attending the MSU correspondence program (I know a number of "broadcast meteorologists" got their degrees that way), or maybe even considering the fine Meteorology program at the Georgia Institute of Technology. It also bugs me that she's getting the prime forecaster position on a #8 market station, but has little experience, which means no street cred. As has been mentioned before, that makes WGCL look like a joke. I'm sorry, but if they ever want to be considered one of the "big dogs", they need to play by the "big dog" rules and leave the small town decisions to the small markets.

Glenn Burms is on Xanax, he really has calmed down over the years's. I actually do like like his appraoch anymore. He is usally wrong anyway.
 
Y'all aren't tacking the bigger question: Why would a TV station hire an on air personality named Dagmar? That's simply not a broadcast-friendly name.

Now if she wanted to work in a school cafeteria, she's be perfect!
