WGCL's Rich Noonan

FTVLive is reporting "Atlanta insiders" say WGCL has "optioned out" of anchor Rich Noonan's five-year contract. Word is that Rich will be replaced by an African American anchor. You may know Noonan is the guy that was let go at WTXF (Philadelphia) and replaced by an African-American male. He sued the station for reverse discrimination and the parties reached a settlement before going to trial. No word yet if Noonan plans on suing WGCL in this case. The low-rated CBS affiliate is owned by Meredith.

I wonder who would replace him. Would Ken Watts still be available? He was liked by his audiences at both WAGA and WXIA before being let go last year from WXIA. What is Ken doing now?

That doesn't make sense. Seriously. Both their chief meteorologist Gene Norman and sportscaster Gil Tyree are African American. As is lead female anchor Cynne Simpson. Is their idea of diversity an all-African American newscast? Doesn't make sense.

Why not if they are the most qualified people? KPNX here in Phoenix has a 3/4ths African American weekend newsteam and they are quite good!

No problem that they're qualified, but are you saying Rich Noonan was not qualified? To let someone go who is already qualified just to bring in someone of a certain race, c'mon! I really have never watched 46 until recently when they did a great job covering the 48th Brigade coming home from Iraq, so I decided to give them a chance. I must say I enjoy their newscast, including Noonan.Maybe they're bringing in an African American because, if the rumor is true that Gil Tyree wants out, could 46 be considering bringing in Jeff Hullinger, who is rumored to be leaving Tampa when his contract is up soon? Hmmmm..that would be interesting.

Remember this name - Kevin O'Brien?Meredith better watch their backs after this guy ruined them. O'Brien personally fired former WGCL GM Sue Schwartz after she complained about what was going on. O'Brien said that WGCL was "too black". Numerous lawsuits are already underway, and an EEOC investigation will probably result if they have not already. If Rich Noonan sues because of descrimination, he can use Kevin O'Brien in his defense, and a problem that is already damning for the company could escalate out of control so fast that no PR firm in the world could get them out of trouble with the public. They might even have to get out of the broadcasting business.Meredith and WGCL are treading on very thin ice. Meredith should sell WGCL before anything else occurs. For your reading pleasure (if you do not know about this):http://www.maynardije.org/columns/d...article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000836864
