WGCU's ongoing problems

What is with WGCU? They are off again for at least the second time this week, running carrier but no programming. However, the WMKO relay is on just fine. Seems obvious to me that they are delivering programming using a more reliable method to WMKO... so, why not feed WGCU the same way??? Also... do they own an audio processor? Sometimes they are barely audible on the air. Some of their talent has bad mic technique and with no processing, they are hard to hear. Always, they are tough to listen to in the car and their modulation level is much lower than anyone else on the dial. Ever since their highly publicized "upgrades" in April, they (and WGCU-TV) have gotten worse.

It is very sad how much those facilities have gone downhill over the last few years.

I live 100 miles from them, but did WGCU shut off its HD? I think it did, since 88.7 now has classical.

They were supposed to stop broadcasting that feed, as it was being provided by the (now) owners of 88.7

You have to wonder how many people were listening to their HD channel.

I wish they could get it together because Naples is too far from Miami or Tampa to reliably get their public radio.

I heard that WGCU 90.1 will be flipping to AAA or some kind of College/Variety format on August 16th.
I'm excited.
Now I'll have something fresh to listen to every time I visit my hometown in Lehigh. 8)

What? Where on earth did you hear that?? I give that about a 1% chance.

Now if you are referring to their HD-2 signal... that might be possible. However, who would support it financially?
Although WGCU sounds like a college station without trying to, there is no real possibility they would flip to a music-based format as you have described.

I wish, wish, wish they would fix their feeble, slightly distorted audio. They are tough to listen to in the car. Luckily, 1200AM's news format picks up the slack.

Here we go again... For the last few days, WGCU's signal has broken up a bit in morning drive. Then today shortly after 7AM, the network feed was so bad that they started playing piano music (!) for awhile. Now, just the famous WGCU open carrier... at 7:40AM.

Why, instead of piano music, didn't the local host read some news, weather or traffic? And why is it so darn difficult for WGCU to get some audio onto their carrier? I can not believe that in 2012 they can't figure out a backup feed for their transmitter. It is so very annoying. And very amateurish.

I have supported public broadcasting my entire life, but I won't give any more $ to WGCU. It is a waste.

Again this morning. Dead air since at least 7AM. Don't they know they have to ID at least once an hour? Sheesh...
