Well, apparently WGGB/40 DID pull the analog switch early. I was in Amherst this evening and found not a whimper from Channel 40. So, the only signal left with a decent analog color picture, in the area near UMass/Amherst is WCDC/19 from Adams, MA (atop Mt. Greylock). Channel 22 (WWLP) was ghost ridden as were WVIT/30, WTIC/61 and WUVN/18. No sign of WSHM/67 over-the-air, except on cable (as "CBS-3, Springfield"). I was kind of surprised that WGGB shut down early. But then again, like WGBY, WGGB has to deal with the weather atop Mt. Tom in Holyoke. I guess they would probably want to have an edge before the really bad weather sets-in. I'm kind of surprised that WGGB won't use the existing Channel 40 antenna for their digital broadcasts (or will they?). Oh, well. The Springfield market is becoming an analog "ghost-town" very early. I'm sorry that I could not see Channel 40 in the analog mode, one more time. Oh, well. Bye-bye, ABC/40.
