Anthony Bucher’s Hitmaker Music Group is selling 1230 WGGG/92.1 W221DX Gainesville and 900 WMOP Ocala FL to William Johnson’s Urban One Broadcasting Network for $225,000. The deal comes one month after UOBN’s application for review at the FCC protesting the 2020 sale of those stations from Florida Sportstalk LLC to Hitmaker for $260,000 was rejected. UOBN claimed it had entered into an LMA with an option to buy the stations which was not executed due to racial discrimination, but Florida Sportstalk said there was no executed contract. WGGG and WMOP have continued to air Christmas music.

And even then, the FCC is somewhat forgiving, they arent as delete happy as they used to be. A good lawyer and a good excuse will net as lap on the wrist and a fine.

It isn't entirely an FCC decision. The "one-year" rule was set in place by Congress. Hopefully WMOP 900 will return to the air on time. It will be a real shame to see WMOP go, having been on the air since 1953. We lost WTMC/WCFI 1290 because the last owner lost its tower site. The latter originally began broadcast service in 1939.
I know what the deal is.. im just saying, with a good lawyer, a good excuse... most stations could likely get out of a deletion
92.1 is back on as "Power 92.1" (R&B & Hip Hop) but WGGG and WMOP are still off the air. They are identifying as WKTK HD-2. They mention in announcements WMOP (Power 900) but not WGGG. The signal sounds good so maybe broadcasting from something other than the WGGG tower. This is the fourth Urban formatted station in town so we will see what happens.
