WGIV 103.3, 1370, WGCD 1490

I'm guessing the gospel format isn't bringing in enough money over at WGIV. They're switching to Urban AC next week. There will still be a large gospel presence on the station though. I don't know who the PD is, Alvin Stowe is back at WQMG in Greensboro and I'm guessing Tonya Rivens is back in charge? Alvin still does some production for the station though. The announcement was made during a weekend show. WGIV is not listed on Arbitron.

It's Urban AC from 1pm-9pm & Gospel from 9pm-10am. The two talk shows, syndicated Warren Ballentine (10am-12pm) & Home Solutions (12-1pm) remain on the air. They're testing Urban AC, it's really more Urban Oldies in PMD for now, possibly expanding it to other dayparts. They've also stopped streaming, probably a funding issue.

sure wish they would go jammin' oldies. think that might work well for them. I would like to see this station at least show up in the ratings.

I think they should go Urban Oldies with some Talk and Blues. They have to separate themselves from V101.9 and My92.7.

been checking this station out the past couple of days in the PM and must say the music is well programmed. Great songs like "Popcorn" by James Brown, "Daydreamin" by Aretha with some Freddie Jackson "You Are My Lady".. Dump the gospel, Praise has that on lock down, go with this music and some talk,, promote the station and I think this station could do quite well.

The music is alright. The imaging & production is terrible. They need to work on all that dead air too. I personally think the station needs alot of work. Their demo is senior citizens?? That's all I ever hear call in. That's who they seem to be targeting. It sounds to me like a bad play on the old Q92.7, which made no money, so I don't see it being very successful. But best of luck bc I know alot of people over there.

Somebody needs to get this station focused. Their ID says old school but some of their songs are not that old. If your old school, then stick with the 60s, 70s and maybe mid 80s... no 90s. They cannot compete format wise. The hybrid isn't working either, part-time gospel, part-time r&b.

I think the main problem is for the last couple months the station has been programmed by the owner, who has never programmed a station before and is close to 70 years old!

What are your thoughts on WGIV? I thought they would take a more old school sound but they've taken a full-service approach... old school soul, new R&B, gospel, classic hip hop and talk. How long do you think it'll last?/ Can they afford to not focus on a niche in today's market? I personally enjoy the hip hop and the "non corporate" sound of the station. It's refreshing. I also enjoy BJ Murphy's show.

At first really enjoyed this station musically, I do like the "non corporate" sound, but the music has taken a turn for the worst in my opinion. I would like to hear more 60's and 70's R&B, but this is just me, I'm old. I will say the mix shows sound really good that I have heard.
