WGKA, WQXI, AND WCNN

These are some of the worst rated stations in Atlanta. They have signals but nobody listens. Are the pd's right out of pd school? I see that WGKA just moved Mike Gallagher to the afternoon slot. Well, that should do it. Here come the ratings. I guess these guys want to protect their .4 share when and if they rate at all. Grow some big ones boys. Become men and take the bull by the horns. Give us some radio you bunch of wimps and we will listen.

Ok, you want a suggestion? I would give SS, Southside Steve, the afternoon gig. He is a proven talent and brilliant with comedy bits. The man has no equal. Any one of these stations would be lucky as hell to have him. Ratings would skyrocket. Do you have any better ideas?

I don't know, Steve...you seem to have come up with all of them already.

Dead air.

The only Two of the three I listen to, is WGKA, and WQXI. Gka, is ok.. Needs some help, and removing Dave Ramsey was not bright. WQXI, well thier shows are funny at times, but God I miss the old mighty 790, of the seventies. What a radio station.

I read about this on an Atlanta radio listings site. It was known as "QXI" (Kicksy).
It's format was Top-40, and had the "stadium effect" echo used by DJs of many AM radio
stations back in the 60's, 70's and early 80's.

I'm not in the radio biz... just a fan (in TV biz). I listen to WGKA all the time. No clue what their ratings are like, but I find their programming for the most part fairly interesting compared to tons of other stations.

Rtibbs may have pinned Atlantascum's identity in another thread:
"I am going to assume Atlantascum is Southside Steve. The name fits and we all know he has plenty of time on his hands when not announcing Now on the mainstage, Porsche."

It's interesting that AS's posts have been written like a 10 year old and then a relatively long, well written one comes along and low and behold, it's a glowing recommendation for SS Steve. Good call Rtibbs.

Yeah, comb over.

I would rate WGKA right with WSB and WGST as far as news, traffic and weather. May not agree with politics but it's very professional. Alot better than AirAtlanta or WFOM or what ever That Dickey mess is called. As for Southside Steve, I would buy XM or Sirrius before I would listen. That afternoon drive show on 96Rock was a train wreck.

More precisely:

Quixie in Dixie!

With Dr. Don Rose and a whole host of other great '60s and '70s Jocks. Even Gary McKee.

Thank you for pointing out I called it in a previous post. I just call them like I see 'em.

WQXI, back in the day, was the BOMB. It was right up there with WLS (Chicago), only problem was the signal at night.

The "glory" days of radio are OVER.

Thats so true.. But even in the day, WQXI am was 5000 day,1000 night. They still had a decent nighttime signal, Now radio for the most part just damn stinks. Either its automated crap, or sydicated filler, Please someone have some [*****], put live radio back on the air, and remember FM is not always the ticket when it comes to music radio.

[EDIT-vulgar language]

Man, I have to agree with that statement so much. That is what I hate about most radio on the air today, Clear Channel and others too. I totally despise what I call "Jukebox Radio". When I listen to radio, I want something close to what WQXI and others used to do:

Music
News
Weather
Information
Entertainment
Personality
Comedy
Fun

Today, some stations come close to that in Morning Drive, but only close. After that they are just jukebox, nothing but music and commercials.

If I am gonna have just music and spots, I would much rather listen to my CD player, where I can choose my own music, and not have to listen to the spots, the quality of which could be the subject of another thread. Just imagine what the production guys from the 60's and 70's could do with the gear available today, considering what they dis with not much more than a reel to reel and a razor blade.

Bring back real radio, give me more than music and commercials, or just shut it off.
