WGKA

WLSS in Sarasota also has a share that can be expressed non-fractionally, thanks to a better signal and (perhaps) more consistently conservative programming than its competitor (which has Rush and Sean but also Jerry Springer and Lionel).

Salem has 16 million invested in 920 WGKA and the station has NO ratings. Did not even show up in the latest Arbitron and never will most likely with the awful programing on it. No listeners means no sales=no commercials.

you wouldn't be a liberal by chance amlover? wgka, liberals hate it... keep an eye on arbitron's next book. the programming is solid and the commericials are very well done and are in good taste unlike the viagra commercials you hear everywhere else. rumor has it they have over 100k listeners these days.

KJCB, do you WORK for GKA? How do you know what they make? Are you aware that over 30% of all radio stations in the COUNTRY make enough to survive and are not even LISTED in the allmighty Arbitron?

Before you tackle a subject like WGKA, make sure you know exactly what you are talking about. Now maybe...just maybe, the Fish helps them pay a few bills but with all the spots that I've heard on their station, they've got to be doing something right.

Plus, they've started billing themselves as the number one talk station on the 920 AM frequency. That's creative marketing! Guys will most likely catch it and laugh. I know from personal experience that the folks at both WGST and WSB are very concerned about the impact WGKA is making in the Atlanta market. It is just a matter of time before the numbers catch up. Sometimes it DOES take 5+ years to get the listeners on the books. Give them time and they may just become something really good....and very profitable! ;D

Very well put. i agree completely.

lol @ fishman.. over 100k listeners?? yea in whose wet dream? Next book WGKA will be lucky to get a .6 12plus. I don't get to see the other demos but I bet they don't have 2 points in 25- 54.

ramsey didn't fit the conservative talk show format on wgka. the station made a wise and bold move to be consistent with their programming all day long. i bet they will have a top tier local talk show host before long that drives them to a 2 share.

let's see now...last fall book they had 50k listeners and i would bet they are way up from a year ago. i hear their advertisers get a very healthy ROI as well. good indicator.
By the tone and tiber of your comments, it would appear you likely work for the station they are smoking these days...GST by chance?

:'(

surfer has it right. . If and when it will take about 5 years! Nothing agaist GKA but right now you guys are going on more hype and hope than facts. BTW WSB is in no way threatened or worried about GKA. They have deep pockets over at Cox. Remember when Mike Rose was on that other "new" Talk Station? They had local shows and even Michael Savage but never had any numbers.

The real question is, "Do you work for GKA?"
I mean you are all over these boards trying to pump them up. How long have you been a board op over there?

I, for one, used to work for GKA and I do know that eventually listeners get "bored" what what they've got. WSB is stagnant when it comes to programming. For the most part, they don't "freshen up" things. Granted, right now, they don't need to. But eventually, and it will happen, they'll fall. When they do, you can bet that somebody like WGKA will be there to pick up the slack. Will they ever be number 1? Probably not but they have a very good chance to be in the top 5. Plus, if they get an FM stick and move their programming on it, who knows what they could do? Now, will they get an FM here in the A-T-L? Aahhh my friends, that is the mystery, isn't it? ::)

FM Talk, Pullllleeezzzz!!!

Can we have at least one FM in Atlanta try talk? I can think of 4 or 5 really good choices off the top of my head. And for God's sake, no more politics. Been reading comments on WGKA lately, and to be honest, I gave them a button on my car radio this week. I like Ingraham, but don't know if I can handle another right-wing talker. I've got the talking points down pat.

You may have all the "talking points" down but the fact is that political talk radio SELLS! You can't argue with success. Besides, having a left-wing nut try to talk sense to a right-wing conservative is just highly entertaining and, when all is said and done, that's what we all want on the radio, right? ENTERTAINMENT?!?

You have choices. I had to have a break from WSB and GST, so for the last few weeks I’ve been listening to GKA, CFO, 680, and 790.

GKA gets most of my time, except on weekends when CFO rules.

It's simple...GKA, like most of the other AM stations has no signal. WSB is a powerhouse station with a powerhouse signal.

I agree, WSB has an awesome signal 24/7. I’m just getting tired of Boortz and Hannity every day.

Earlier this year, WGKA increased the daytime power to 14, 000 watts. While this isn't anything near WSB, it surely provides parity with WGST and the other AM stations in Atlanta during daylight hours.

Actually, the Salem O&O in Chicago just hired one of the MAJOR talents in the market to replace Bill Bennett. Who knows, maybe this is a test case and soon many more of Salem's stations will have live local morning shows.

In Dallas, the Salem O&O replaced Bennett with Mike Gallagher. Gallagher does the Morning show live and local before he does his national show. Much like Boortz does for WSB. With the new changes in Daylight Saving Time for 2007, I'd focus my attention on a live afternoon show, not a morning show. They will have more hours during the year at full power during the PM drive than with AM drive.
