WGLM Lafayette = Radio Disney

My boss says the cash flow formula has not been used to buy or sell radio
stations in populated areas for a dozen years. In this corporate environment,
an FCC construction permit for a city like Cincinnati will bring 18 million unbuilt.
A signal that would cover Lafayette would be worth millions and cash flow
has nothing to do with it.

Yes, but for stations already operating, there are methods to determine the price, not just stick value.

The previous owners of 98.7 were probably lucky to get the $800,000 for the former alternative signal that went dark (I think Rick Mummey was quoted as saying the station got lots of nice letters, just none of them that contained checks).

It might have been a good idea for the Vaughns to have bought one of the surrounding signals but as things stand now, they're left as a standalone.

WIBN must have been a tough situation, I remember them being on 98.3 at much lower power in an abandoned schoolhouse in Earl Park.

There really aren't any other stations worth acquiring around Lafayette that would be worth the money to move to the Lafayette market these days unless an owner was willing to invest a ton of money to relocate their sticks or flip off the stereo pilot and go talk. Probably the best out of town signals in Lafayette these days are Frankfort's 99.7 (which the Kaspers intend on keeping for a long time), followed by Crawfordsville's 103.9, 107.7 in Monticello, and 98.1 in Earl Park coming in a distant fourth.

Speaking of WIBN, I never understood why they didn't move to the Lafayette market before 98.7 existed. I know interference from WXXP in Anderson was an issue back when they moved frequencies and upgraded power, but one would figure moving the tower just a few miles east of their present location would have done wonders in getting a decent signal in the city. I guess if that station ever goes on the block, WASK could always buy it to "fill-in" some of the signal holes to the north and west of the listening area.

The cash flow method is often used by mom and pop to buy a mom and pop business.
I suppose You could use it to buy an AM in the mountains of Kentucky or rural Texas.
But with 3 owners that I know of, wanting another stick in the Lafayette market. It's
not going to be used in this town.
Unless you have millions, I believe You are S.O.L.

Kelly needs another signal to compete. But, Art isn't going to sit
on his hands while somebody else aquires another stick. So, who
is the 3rd guy who wants another station?
Schurz is at their limit, aren't they?
