Starting Monday June 22, Don Geronimo (formerly of Don & Mike) will be on WGMD 92.7 from 9am to 12noon. Don retired to Ocean City when he left the Don and Mike show syndicated out of WJFK. Jared Morris, who has been on from 9am-12noon for several years is bumped to 7pm-10pm. WGMD drops Michael Savage. The will be "live" and "local" from 5:30am-10pm weekdays, except for "Rush" from noon to 3pm. WICO-FM which is next to WGMD on the dial at 92.5 switch to talk in April running all syndicated programming including Rush and Savage, but airs Savage at 6, rather than WGMD's 7pm. It's interesting that WICO-FM is owned by Delmarva Broadcasting which owns WDEL, but has not local talk. WGMD's local talk is almost always about Sussex County, and a little about Ocean City. It seems that if WICO-FM were to do live AM and PM drive they could build the same kind of listener loyalty in the Salisbury, Pocomoke City, Ocean City area.

It will be interesting to see which of those two stations does better ratings wise, live and local or satellite talk. Interestingly, WDEL's sister station is doing the opposite of live and local. However, the two markets (Wilmington vs Ocean City- Lower Delaware) are very different markets. Wilmington is a blue county, Sussex and Salisbury MD are red counties. My guess is WICO-FM has far less trouble selling local spots for Rush's show than either WDEL or WILM did. So in WICO's case it might be more profitable to air the satellite talkers rather than go to the expense and trouble of doing live and local to generate the same local spots.

Correction: Savage moving to tape delay at 10pm, Laura Ingram tape delay dropped.

I'm not a big fan of talk radio but I AM a fan of seeing someone get out from under the CBS yoke! Congrats on another chance doing what you love for a living. At least somebody somewhere still likes thier local stations.

I wish Don well at WGMD. I used to work at WGMD back in 1997-1998. Now down here in Port Charlotte FL (WKII-AM) ... would give anything to get back to my home state of Delaware and be near Ocean City to Rehoboth ... which I love. Stuck down here, unfortunately.
