WGME is awful

WGME's news is bordering on ridiculous.

It's one thing to report that an oil company is screwing its customers over, it's another to hang out in their driveway and harass them all day. By putting themselves into the position to have their news van rammed into, they make themselves part of the story. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Could someone also tell those new girls Kate Barker and Giovanna Bichard to "turn it down"? They always seem to be "in the red" and they treat an inch of snow like it's Armageddon.

Just waiting for the day the "explosion at Seabrook, the story after Plowcam!" tease hits the air.

More proof that WCSH is still the class of the Portland TV market, and the ratings show it.

Actually if you listened carefully to the story, they clearly stated they were parked on a neighbor's property who they had permission to be on. That was a good story by 13, get right in and talk to the customers. The owner of the company, who is clearly doing something else wrong by the complaints, made a public ass out of himself by what he did. And he did it on neighboring property to boot. I hope the police throw the book at that guy, no news crew should have to face that nonsense.

What a jerk! My grandmother is from Biddeford, ME (where this all happened) and she certainally doesn't behave like that! :(

Well, I watched the report (thanks AtkinsonWx!) and do not see anything untoward about the way that the WGME reporters acted or reacted. In fact, it looks like the story was covered rather thoroughly and the oil company owner's actions only went to prove that he is not to be trusted or believed.

Portland is not a market with a lot of crime, political intrigue, corruption, etc. to report on (thankfully). Sure, it has those things now and then, but nothing like a big market. So, reporters end up spending more time on stories that involve "regular people" like little old ladies who are scammed out of $1600 in oil money. Good for them - that's what they should be doing. Look, they had permission to be where they were and they were reporting on a story that had devastating consequences for certain members of the public (and something that could happen to almost anyone). It's a legitimate story and what I saw was good, solid reporting.

I might add that WGME's graphics package looks more professional than 6 or 8 these days.

Anyhow, there's nothing "awful" about this report whatsoever. Except for the behavior of the oil company guy.

I have to disagree with the originial poster. They said the customers asked them to investigate, which obviously shows they have some trust in the community. They got permission to be there, and as it turns out, the owner is a very shady man. In my opinion they were doing some good investigative reporting. The ramming incident is nothing unusual, people who usually have something to hide or run shady operations like poor construction, have suspicious polices etc go to extreme lengths to get news cameras out of there.

More proof that WCSH is still the class of the Portland TV market, and the ratings show it.

Sounds like you're just biased. Ratings don't always equal a classy operation.

I don't usually agree with threefer but those"new girls are obnoxious. The over sensationalism of their newscast/weathercast is a real turn off.

As far as WCSH 6 their Aroostook County coverage is way overdone. There's isn't much "Local" in their local newscast. I know they get the ratings but for"Local" news I watch the competition.

The pace and the reporters are great...but the teases are terrible! The words: Coming up at 5:30 or 6 should be eliminated.

I honestly don't want to wait until 6 or 11PM to get the remainder of ANY story!

Why do I get the feeling that I'm watching a local news edition of ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT?

WGME has not run right since Jim Sanders left in the early 90's!! What is Jeff Peterson doing back there? Is he making the rounds to all the local stations?

Actually...I think Jeff is probably one of the hardest working anchor/reporters in Maine! He's great on camera and out in the field.

Besides...with a brand new baby in the house, the extra money Jeff is earning can be used for baby food--or to begin of a college tuition fund! ;)
