WGMR A Sellout Against Local Radio

There is an effort afoot to bundle all or several of the stations Simpson still operates.
Local radio ownership is quickly fading it appears.

Where are the local entrepreneurs to keep local radio local?

Why would someone want to buy any of those stations then have to spend a bundle to fix them up and then face estblished stations. This is a mission for a masochist.

There's not that much required for fixing them up these days...the expense would be minimal. The real value at these stations, are the licenses. A few of them can be modified to cover rated markets. Cary snatched up most of the open frequencies in the Northern central area of PA. That's thinking forward...

My point was made by a recent sale of one of Simpson's stations where he had the "forsight" to buy. That station just sold for $290M. If you take what he paid for the license and the money he put in it including the $19.95 for the transmitter, then adjust that to todays dollars he probably lost, oh, not much more than what he paid. Very shrewd. That is forward thinking. Can't wait to see what they sell WTRN.

Cary promises never to sell another station again if you all promise never to start another thread like this one.

Which one of Simpson's stations is worth THAT MUCH? Impossible...2.9 Million maybe...and that's a stretch!

You really need to try to keep up!
They sold a northern PA station in the last two weeks for under $300.

Everythings for sale.
They really timed the market.
Hold while values went through the roof.
Sell now that values are tanking.

Of course it saves them a lot of taxes by waiting to sell low.
Less capital gains.
Eureka!

WQRM, Smethport, PA
seller: Simpson's Farm and Home Broadcasting
$290,000

Look out fellow readers! Here come another 1,289 posts...and that will just be the first day. I thought Simpson learned his lessons about selling his stations.

$290,000 is quite different from $290 million

Now that radio values have gone down all over the country, I think this is the perfect time for Broadcastress to take out the money and buy a radio station, and show us all once and for all how smart she is! I'd love to gather pearls of wisdom from someone who obviously has all the answers!

To which community will you be bringing back local community service with radio done right, Broadcastress? Or do you just get your jollies by beating up on people on chat boards who have done this for longer than you've been alive?

Buy a station and show how it's all done.

Results radio sales are, well, showing the results of some mis-steps. The state college group is still faultering even after adding another signal. Quality not quantity. Take a look at jopa. Local radio is what people want.
Besides how many country stations do people want?

Some posters are so detached from what is happening in the market that they are missing it now. Yuck on that a while.

wirelessinpa
that was the funniest post in weeks around here. Lets all let her (B.G.) alone for a while

So now that the station has been sold....is A.j. still around?
and how about that signal !
wow.
I guess I was all wrong.
