WGN...A New Low

While tuning in to Mike McConnell's show at 10 this morning, he brought up the usual "weird news" topics. The first two mentioned were the snow sculpture in Rhode Island, and the birthday cake story from Australia.

Being an everyday listener of Garry Meier's show, I can tell you that he brought up these stories about WEDNESDAY last week.

If WGN thinks that McConnell is beating the competition (Rush, etc.), they are thinking incorrectly.

All I have access to is the 6+ not day parts, but if I am reading the chart correctly:

http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb005

WGN has 4.5 and WLS AM has 2.9. down from 4.1 in November. Something is not working at 890AM.

I have listened to Rush and:

IMHO he needs to find something else to rant about. The election is over. There has to be something else to discuss. Rush need to go back to being an conservative who is also an entertainer. Not a bitter loser. He use to be fun to listen to no matter what your politics are.

I guess that even though the lineup at WGN is bad, the competition isn't that much of a boost, either. I don't really think about this too much when I'm listening.

Right on target with Rush. Whenever there is a big political story, listeners seem to tune in. However, being that Obama (D) won the election, conservative talk will just get more and more boring.

WLS needs to figure out how to keep an audience tuned in. I like the idea of the traffic reports on the fives, but inserting more commercials tunes and audience out more and more. When I listen online I usually know when to mute the player because they air so many commercials. They also need to bring in Overnight America or Coast to Coast again.
