WGN America

I was vacationing in Chicago last week, within the Loop, I saw WGN America ads for Rules of Engagement TV shows. I thought Chicago can't get WGN America and only get WGN-TV local feed? Is Comcast, RCN, and AT&T Uverse are going to add this channel in the future in Chicago?

As does DirecTV. To my knowledge, the WGN America signal has never been blacked out within the Chicago market. Considering how vastly different the programming is, no reason for it to be.

Is there any reason why Chicago TV market cannot get WGN America? Programs except for WGN News at Noon and at Nine, are not duplicate. Just look at TBS, and WPCH in Atlanta.

I've seen those billboards too and I'm pretty sure they're directed at Ad buyers, not viewers. The text on one of them says "your customers love How I Met Your Mother" or something to the effect. Chicago has a huge advertising agency presence, so it makes some sense for Tribune to try to get "The Superstation" on their minds...

There's really very little reason for the typical Chicagoan to watch the national feed over the local. The national pre-empts almost all the local news broadcasts, several Bulls games, all Blackhawks games and airs no Chicago commercials. If I had access to the local feed, I would never watch the national again except maybe to compare the feeds during simulcast programming.
There's only so much HIMYM a person can take (not that WGN realizes that with the relentless promotions).
I'll say, though, that I have a lot more connections to Chicagoland than the run-of-the-mill WGN America viewer and I loathe what that channel has become.

I know that it has been 4 years since this post and even they are on Wide Open West, it might have at one point but they might have changed, not sure about any of the channels you mention but I hope you enjoyed your Chicago vacation 4 years ago.
