Actually, looking at the full schedule that you linked, they have REPLACED an hour of AFV with Paid Programming (shifting it from 2AM to 5AM.

Also, I think that schedule looks pretty good. Cheers and Dharma are old and tired, as is ST: TNG. According to the link, sitcoms air from 1-3AM, not AFV.

WGN America is a mess. They should try to turn a leaf and evolve into a more nationally focused cable network with originals.

I also heard that they're going to be adding Futurama and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia to the lineup, don't know when, but Comedy Central already has these shows on their lineup.

I wish they had stayed with and expanded Out of Sight Retro Night. They could have done what ME-TV is now doing, only on cable. :-\

Wow...not much variety in that schedule at all :-[

Virtually every show in that lineup is a minimum of twice-a-day, which, in this day in age of television programming, is not that surprising. Even understanding that Tribune is still operating in bankruptcy, it's like they're not spending more money on programming for WGN America.

Seems like WGN manages to shoot their self in the foot a lot. They had great shows like Newhart, WKRP, Barney Miller and now they are gone. I even could put up with Rick Dees stale drops in's for those shows.

Re: WGN - Mid 1990s

Ahh, WGN, Chicago. I gotta thank them! In the mid 1990s they were the only station I know of that aired the re-packaged "New 3 Stooges" cartoons originally produced in 1965 and 1966. The re-packaging was done by DIC, complete with a new opening and closing theme using shots from the cartoons. I taped them every day, trying to get all 156 cartoons, which also featured some Live-action opens and closes from the trio who supplied the voices. Having the Stooges, themselves, doing the voices + the live action sequences can make a Stooges-fan's mouth water.
So I made a list with 156 numbers on it, and as I caught the number of the animated episode shown, I would cross it off on my list. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, not all 156 cartoons apparently made it to the DIC re-package. A few I never saw, and when I did run into one that I hadn't gotten, there was nothing about it that would warrant it being deleted. One of the live action sequences was missing ... a dentist and patient gag... and another one was cut short. Fortunately, I got both of these live action sequences on VHS and DVD issues of the cartoons. The entire series has not been (as far as I can tell) released on one video set, so it was very nice to be able to get the vast majority of them from WGN who ran them Monday-Friday at 3pm (EST) which would be 2pm (CST). Still, I'm missing one or two of the cartoons. Moe would hold out his fist and ask, "You see that?" I'd have to answer "No".

Yes, I think WGN and ION (to name a couple) missed the ball. Each would be more popular today
if they had gone the Me-TV route. Most of WGNA programs are offbeat and quirky shows which
are ok for an alley, but the big audience on the turnpike has passed them by.

How many episodes of 'Til Death are there? I didn't think that show lasted even one full season on FOX.

81 episodes over four seasons, just enough these days to land on syndication. After the first season it was thrown into the worst timeslots Fox had to offer. There were even new episodes which aired during the Super Bowl last year when CBS had it to provide 'counterprogramming'. Basically it stayed on the air because Sony offered Fox good financial incentives to plug it in wherever they could.

NOOOOO! Not "The Beverly Hillbillies"!

A few years ago a station where I live had the black and white episodes, and it was the first time I had seen them. And they were really good. No matter what you think of this show, everyone gave good performances in those earliest episodes. Even Max Baer was not a dumb hick. These were not rednecks, but intelligent people who just hadn't been exposed to the world.

At some point either I quit watching or the station quit showing them.

I didn't have time to tape this and watch it, but I did recently start watching "Jeannie" and I'm really enjoying it, even though I surely saw most of the episodes when I was a teenager. So I'm glad it's continuing. Now if they would just show the black and white "Bewtched".

I hope so. I like both but don't have cable.

As long as WGN stays in the very basic package with the broadcast channels which runs through the same wire as what is traditionally called "cable" I'm okay.

Yes the b&w Hillbillies were much better than the color ones.

Now that TBS has revealed their lineup today, it's almost as if the same
guy (NUT) is running both networks. I'm sure both will be wanting to
grab Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution when it goes into syndication. :D

A lot of those black-and-white episodes are now in the Public Domain, as CBS apparently did not bother to renew
the copyrights. You can stream them online in various places our buy DVD's very inexpensively at WalMart or in
dollar stores. Old public domain Hillbillies episodes and the original Hawaii Five-O were staples of the lineup at
WFAT-TV in Johnstown, PA in the mid-80's. I much preferred them to the contemporary network fare.

I know what you are saying about the later Hillbillies episodes becoming cartoonish.
Still, gotta love Jethro as Robin Hood running around Griffith Park!

Why are Sunny and Futurama buried so late at night? Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. And ... what's up with the 8-10p slot? 3rd Rock 8-9p some days, and 9-10p other days. Same for How I Met Your Mother. Weird.

I have a season pass for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and really should get one for "Futurama" since at some point they'll air those episodes I haven't seen yet.

Of course, I've deleted every "Sunny" episode I recorded without watching because the networks brought back their Fall shows too. I don't have time!
