WGN Announces New Afternoon Lineup

For Immediate Release

NEWS/TALK 720 WGN RADIO ANNOUNCES
NEW AFTERNOON LINE-UP

"Chicago, March 15, 2007… WGN Radio has announced its plan for a new afternoon line-up designed to better serve its listening audience. The new schedule will take effect later this spring.

The programming changes will include John Williams moving to the early afternoon timeslot. The longer form program will allow the talented interviewer and conversationalist more time for in-depth discussion and coverage. Moving into the late afternoon timeslot is Steve Cochran, whose quick-witted style will work well in the short-form environment of the late afternoon shift.

“These changes will allow John and Steve to really shine in ways that best showcase their talents,” said Tom Langmyer, Vice President/General Manager of WGN Radio. “As Chicago’s hometown station, we pride ourselves on delivering the best possible news, information and content to our listeners. By re-designing our afternoon programming, we'll be delivering a better product."

News/Talk 720 WGN Radio is a 50,000-watt station that reflects what’s happening in Chicagoland with a format of talk, news, and sports. The Voice of Chicago for over 80 years, WGN Radio is also the voice of the Chicago Cubs and Northwestern University football and basketball. As Chicago’s top rated station, WGN Radio’s powerful signal reaches 38 states and Canada."

Do not understand how WGN keeps their ratings up. Cochran and Williams' show are completely boring

and lame. Have tried to listen for more than five minutes but cannot do it and Cochran thinks he is

some great hip comedian?... pullease!!

I do like Nick D's weekend show and Spike has some great interviews but the rest is total snoozeville...

...imop.

I think they should pair-up Cochran and Garry Meier in afternoons.

Then buy billboards all over town..."Steve & Garry together again...only WGN"

;)

That's a good one! But seriously, I wonder if WGN has ever shown interest in Garry. I think he'd be a great adition, but I'm sure the price would have to be right. And, because this thread was posted twice, I accidentally posted a reply in the blank thread. So, if anyone missed it, I had mentioned that I was curious what they plan to do with the noon hour with John Williams starting at 1:00. Would Kathy and Judy get an extra hour, or would they make that a noon news hour type format?

I have always thought Nick was great - and I read a rumor somewhere that he has something amazing on the horizon.....

I've been listening to WGN since about 1959. Love it. It's the BEST anywhere.

NICK D has come as long way. For the first 8 or 9 months he was on I LOVED his schtick but HATED his HORRIBLE stuttering, stammering,
way too fast delivery. He must have worked VERY hard because now it is MUCH improved, but still a bit of a stammer at times. Carl Grayson must be spinning in his grave.

I live 150 miles from Chicago but our local radio DRIVES ME to wgn.It does not bore me, and it is quite entertaining - compared to say wls and the all satellite crap on our locals. My take; Cochran and K&J are mediocre - good days and bad, Spike and Williams are quite good, S&J and Milt, Max Orion and Paul Harvey are "old school listenable." I like the clever way they have "cheapened" their news. It's still good, but nothing like the old days. WGN WAS the "standard" with Wally and Uncle Bobby. Now they are still the best, but the best is alot LESS than before.

I figure they have the assembled "great radio brains" like Langmeyer
to run things. If He can't make "the voice of Chicago" make it - nobody can.

I only hope they don't sell it, because the new owner will FLUSH alot.

WGN is the way radio for old farts should be done.

I wonder what will happen now that it's been announced that Tribune is going to sell out and the new owner's going to sell off the Cubbies. What will they do to WGN??

WGN will crash and burn. It's an expensive place to run. It won't be the same.

AM radio is dead anyway, except for them. Radio stinks. Who cares?
