WGN is in the process of making news changes

It appears that former Fox Chicago anchor Mark Suppelsa will so be signed by WGN-TV to be lead anchor replacing Steve Sanders on the 9pm news. Suppelsa recently left the Fox affiliate and can make a deal with WGN after June 17th when his WFLD contract will no longer give Fox Chicago the option to match any deals offered him.

I read that WGN does have plans for a 5pm newshour to start this summer but I can't find out much information on the new news program.

This two plus two probably doesn't equal four. But I thought it was odd that during last weeks Mary Tyler Moore retro night on WGN America, they did a last minute pre emption of the MTM final episode, featuring the firing of the long time WJM news staff. Could someone have decided that episode might - in WGN's near future - hit a little too close to home?

Why the hell would they let Steve Sanders go?
I wonder if this 5 p.m. news will be seen on the superstation? Oh, who am I kidding, it's Chicago-related so probably not!

Mark Suppelsa was way too liberal for FOX but he does a good job in news. The problem with Chicago is there is no where to go. Channel 2 (WBBM) just takes everyone's rejects. Fox is a mess but does OK because FOX is number one now.

Suppelsa was supposed to be the next anchor at 10pm on WMAQ (Channel 5) but left in a huff when they continued with Warner Saunders. Suppelsa was passed over again at 10pm when Fox expaned their nightly news from 9-10 to 9pm - 10:35pm. He should've got the 10pm slot too.

At 5pm "The Simpsons" kicks everyone else's ass, as it does at 6pm. Channel 9 has historically run first rate sitcoms from 5pm - 7pm but now there are few sitcoms that are coming off network. WGN got Two and a Half Men and Family Guy from 6pm - 7pm but only weak stuff for the first hour so it makes sense to try news.

By the way! if you have notice in the background scene of the Mary Tylor Moore Show, It is always snowing outside in the background at Mary's apartment! Over in New York, don't they ever have any summer season in New York???...
or if I'm mistaken, where the show was taken place at???...

Mary's character lived in Minneapolis. The opening was filmed there. It is always snowing in Minneapolis and it never rains in Southern California but it pours, man it pours. God didn't make little green apples and it don't rain in Indianapolis. Rainy days and Mondays always get me down but I digress....

Thanks for the info Fussbudget....

Well it looks like Mark Supelsa takes over at 9pm and Allison Payne stayes. Steve Sanders gets demoted back to the noon news with that awful Micah Matera (Sp??).

This leaves Tom Negovan out in the cold, reassigned to full time reporting, and back up anchor for all shifts.

A new news at 5:30pm with Supelsa and Payne starts.

Too bad WGN treated Sanders and Negovan like dirt, they did a good job for WGN.

I guess flavour of the month Mark Supelsa got what he wanted.
