"WGN Midday News" Not on WGN America's Programming Schedule for This Calendar Week

Here a link to their schedule.

According to the Facebook page "Bring Back WGN News at Nine", the removal of the "WGN Midday News" from WGN America's programming schedule for the current calendar week was part of an "experiment" and it should be part of the programming schedule for the next calendar week.

WGN/Chicago as "WGN America" is really working to make itself irrelevant as a programming channel. WGN when it was officially a "superstation" had a lot of relevance around the country with so many passionate Chitown ex-patriates spread around the country. Now that it is not showing Chicago sports or news, there is really no reason for it to be carried by cable systems around the country with the other irrelevant channel, TBS, which was interesting to watch as WTBS/Atlanta.

WGN America returned to broadcasting the "WGN Midday News" today.

Somewhere down the line, people should expect All WGN-TV programming to be removed from WGN America. When that happens, WGN America's name should be changed to something else. The 4am news, the noon to 1pm portion of the midday news are all that's carried anymore. They already dropped the 9pm news, but not sure why the 5pm news was never added. The 5 - 10am portion & the 11am - noon portion of the midday carry a lot of Syndex content, that it stays on WGN-TV only.

What's the difference between WGN-TV 9 and WGN America?

WGN-TV 9 is the local edition, seen around Chicago and with an OTA antenna. WGN America is the "national feed" of the station, which as it's been said, is gradually looking like just another cable channel and not a "superstation" anymore.

I agree with dave73; I would expect someday the "WGN America" name to go away. I honestly think if this original programming takes off that they have, it may put them "on the map" (much like "South Park" did for Comedy Central) and it may happen then..

But look at TBS. They were in the same situation 20 years ago and spun off 'TBS' from WTBS Atlanta. The TBS name still holds strong to this day.
