WGN to carry Corner Gas

WGN has gained the right to carry CTV (Canada)'s hit show Corner Gas.

"The series will be available in nearly 70 million U.S. homes beginning in 2007.
With today's announcement, Corner Gas follows in the footsteps of several CTV original series which have gone on to premiere in the US. The list includes Comedy Inc., Comedy Now!, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Instant Star and Whistler."

It's a two year, 88 episode deal.

I wish that some cable network would get the Red Green Show.

At least some PBS stations have that. Have you contacted your local member station? It's Viewers Like You that keep those stations running!

WGN? Shouldn't that be in the Chicago forum? This is the national board.

The article is referring to the national cable version of WGN, not the local station. I'd presume that the show would be on both feeds, though.

Odd that the article doesn't mention DaVinci's Inquest, which was not only another Canadian series picked up in the US, but one that aired on WGN, to boot. Now if only they'd pick up Trailer Park Boys and air it late at night so it doesn't have to be hacked all to hell.

The Red Green Show tends to get second rate treatment from the only PBS station in my area that carries it. It's only on once a week on Thursday nights, and it's been the same 2 seasons (2000 and 2004) for the past year since I discovered it was on. I've contacted them and they say it will also be on Saturday nights in a few months after local high school and college football and basketball are over. I can understand why they probably can't get the early years before the show moved to CBC, but it was on CBC for 9 years, so there should be more shows than that available.

If a cable network were to get the show I'd think it would be more likely to be on more often with more episodes.

I didn't realize WGN had a national feed.. is this on cable or via satellite? I've never seen it on any cable system in the northeast.

The Red Green Show is on WIPB, Muncie (Ball State) but not on WFYI, Indianapolis. Maybe Indy thinks it's too hokey. They seem to show it quite a bit during the Muncie fundraisers.

If you see WGN anywhere outside the Chicago market, it's the Superstation feed. As far as I know, the only programs airing on both feeds are the 9:00 news and Cubs/White Sox/Bulls games.

So Superstation WGN will be the U.S. home for "Corner Gas"? I thought it would be Comedy Central or TBS.

Two Canadian shows on their schedule (that and Da Vinci's Inquest)...could "The National" be next???

There's also the Noon news and Jerry Lewis' telethon, plus locally-made specials, such as last year's "Bozo, Gar and Ray" retrospective. As for the Bulls -- some games make the Superstation; the others are on the local signal only.

And the kicker is that Chicagoland viewers won't see the series without satellite -- it's not part of the local schedule.

We could only hope -- but if they did, I hope Peter doesn't mind being on at 11PM ET in the US, since WGN prefers to have theor local news on the Superstation (unless a movie or a local-only Bulls game runs over).

WLJT 11 In Lexington, TN is the PBS station that carries Red Green in my area. WKNO 10 in Memphis ran it once during a fund drive, claiming it would be added to the regular schedule in the future, but that never happened. Either the show didn't get enough money to suit the station management, or someone lied.

APT has never aired Red Green or any other Canadian series that I know of, they've stuck strictly to British stuff. It'd be nice if they'd swap some of the old chestnuts out and give something else a try. I like AYBS? and Keeping Up Appearances, but I've seen every episode of those they have (and in the case of the latter, there were only 40 to begin with).

No.

I am looking into this.
There is increasing demand for the National to air in border towns, at the very least.
In the meantime, why not just bug your local cable company or Sattelite provider to add CBC tv to your channel line up?
How much trouble could it possibly be to add it?
What ever happend to the whole 500 channel Universe idea anyway?

Until CTVs' NHL and Olympics rights kick in, the NHL and the IOC would had to have a say. The CFL, too, as America One broadcasts CFL games (mainly simulcasts from TSN and CBC).

And the few American TV shows and movies the CBC has rights to, such as The Simpsons and Frasier, would also have to be addressed.

Because of all this, putting CBC Television on American cable and satellite nationwide will have to involve alot of red tape. This was also probably the reason why Windsor's CBET couldn't be added to DirecTV or Dish line-ups for Detroit.

Infomericals to be shown :)

I agree I found that Comcast would only add a channel if some company on a lower tier "forces" them to by withholding the more "popular" channel

But when you think about it, FCC *Should* allow companies to offer their customers an international package without headache...excluding those times when CBC carries a program (same show, same content) at the same time as an American Network.

That's where that cute blue screen comes in with the message "The program you are watching is on channel..."
OR the simple Sim Sub that blocks out cbc and replaces it with the American channel.

(An international package could include both the CBC and BBC together, along with BBC world and CBC Newsworld.)

They do, they just don't have CBC for the reasons already stated.
When I had DISH Network, one of their packages offered AL-JAZZERA.

What would be nice is if the CBC could offer an alternate video stream, specifically formatted to not require any rights or clearances for the US market. They have proven they can do this for radio - Sirius carries "CBC 1 for North America" on stream 137.
