WGNA-FM? Wha' happenned?

Not in the market, but just got a glimpse at the Albany ratings, and I was surprised to see WGNA well below what I remember them at.

Weren't they number 1 for many years?

What changes occurred to their programming (and in the market) for them to sink this low?

Thanks!~

You're right. WGNA is only at a tie for #5. The station used to be #1 year after year. It's not like another Country station is zooming up the ratings, taking the WGNA audience. The other Albany market Country station is 100.1 WKLI, a Class A, which is #12.

I was always amazed at how well Country does in Upstate NY. It's #1 in Syracuse, Utica and Watertown. #2 in Buffalo and Binghamton. It was often #1 in Rochester, although we don't see WBEE, since only iHeart stations are listed in the most recent ratings for Rochester, and WBEE is owned by Entercom. I wouldn't have associated Country music with Upstate NY until I saw the ratings for those upstate markets.

Meanwhile WGY-AM-FM is more than 3 ratings points head of WGNA in the Albany ratings. What happened to the Albany Country audience?

Anyone have any thoughts on why?

Change in airstaff?

Change in Music?

Country format out of favor?

Morning show problems?

As recently as last summer, they were #1. Country tends to grow in the summer. This is a diary market, so let's see what happens in the next book.
