WGNY-FM Audio Problem

"LenoxAve" started that thread back in November about CBS-FM's audio problems. But now, look what happened to "Fox Oldies" today. I was on my way to work and I tuned to 98.9 and I've heard that the audio quality on WGNY's "Fox Oldies" sounded horrible. That is one of the most biggest problems ever came up. It sounded a lot like it came from a transistor radio or maybe sounded like an AM radio. The audio is way below average at 16 Knossos rather than 56kbps.

The streaming on "Fox Oldies" sounded a lot better than that godawful audio quality as heard on FM. Here's the deal. WGNY-FM at 98.9, fix the audio and it get it right, otherwise you will lose some of its momentum and they will be ending up at WBPM. WBPM sounded a lot more than WGNY, but. it had the right mix of 60's through 80's music than WGNY's "Fox Oldies" does, because WGNY plays too much 50's music and it sounded a lot like. CBS-FM circa 1975. Either fix the audio or find another station. This station will go down the tubes. "Fox Oldies" is going nowhere because of audio issues. Like I said, fix the audio and it will do better.
 
They have has their share of audio problems. When I turned it on this am on the way to work I thought it was just dead air from Blowhard van, but he later said they'd been off the air since 2 am. Last month has been awful. Supposedly they are looking for a "permanent fix". Can't sell (or in Van's case, Give away) adevertising if u are off the air.
Sorry, Disney--no one that I can remember has played the variety of oldies that 98.9 does, on FM, anyway. I am starting to hear some repitition, which there is no excuse for, but even with the repitition, its still better than CZX or BPM when they were playing "yesterdays favorites"; they didn't even had the cajones to call their format oldies.....
How did 98.9 do on the fall book???

"Oldies4ever", WGNY's "Fox Oldies" never showed up in the fall ratings book as I said before. Arbitron did not registered that much. That's why WGNY didn't make it on the list in the Poughkeepsie and Hudson Valley ratings books.

To get back on 98.9 audio issues, I was in the van after leaving my job, we listened to it and it had the same problem. I've just noticed that WGNY on the FM side at 98.9's audio sounded like you hear on a Walkman. I hope this audio at WGNY's "Fox Oldies" on the FM side continues to get worst. Either fix the audio or leave it like that. Make your pick.

I was down in Florida last month using my TuneIn app and gear "Fox Oldies" and the quality sounded a lot better than that godawful sound quality on standard FM. We listened to it when I was visiting Deerfield Beach and had a great time.
 
WGNY did not show up in the Poughkeepsie fall book because like Pamal, Sunrise broadcasting subscribed only to the Hudson Valley book, and not the Poughkeepsie one. WSPK didn’t show in the Poughkeepsie book either. WGNY –FM does not reach the HV Book area very well so as expected WGNY did not show there either. I wonder how much it costs to subscribe to these ratings books that some companies subscribe to one but not the other.
As for the WGNY-FM audio problems (AM sounds normal) about a week ago I was listening to WGNY-FM when the audio started to break up. Over about an hour it got worse and became really choppy. The next time I listened it sounded horrible, like “muddy”, or muffled. It is scratchy and way to much bass. The FM sounds worse than AM. I wonder if the signal breaking up was an important piece of equipment failing, and they are now operating on a poor quality back up system. I agree they need to fix it ASAP. WGNY is difficult to listen to like this .Perhaps there is a delay in getting the needed part. I doubt they would just leave it like this. Most stations have backups that are almost as good as the main system so most listeners don’t notice much difference. WGNY not so much.
 
We had a problem with our audio feed when a lightning- bolt hit our ISDN line from the studio on lower Broadway in Newburgh to the transmitter south of Vails Gate. We were off the air for two days before the telephone company repaired their pair on the pole. Old memories from WGNY-FM on
103.1 MHz in 1968. Are stations like WGNY-FM now making as much money as a small 7-11? Why do people run these commercial operations employing people who make less then a school crossing guard?
