WGNY-FM Rosendale On The Air

Although it may appeal to some older listeners, this is not what sponsors are looking for.

Bingo. You nailed it. If CBS-FM couldn't cut it in the #1 market paying the old oldies, no way it'll work up here either. Forget the likely niche ratings, who's really going to buy?? Sales are key.

The Music is too old. Even Pamal dumped the Standards on their AMs. Maybe if they dumped they oldest 7 years or so and added 7 at the other with a little more variety they would have something.

This is a sad reality, but I think we should enjoy it while it lasts.

There is an article about WGNY-FM at 98.9 which is "Fox Oldies" is in the Daily Freeman. I'll post a link to it about the new station at 98.9 just to keep in mind.

This is an Interesting purely promotional piece, typical of a new station launch. However a word of caution: I was surprised this would happen on a credited site such as the Daily Freeman; but when I clicked on page 3 (of4) a bogus pop up warned of suspicious activity infecting my computer with several viruses. It offered to fix my ‘problem’. I have up to date pop up, virus, and spy ware protection so I just closed it out, and will now do a system scan to be sure.

the reporter who wrote the story was paula mitchell - former anchor of the former cable 6 news. paula covers a lot of different stories ... from coleman high school plays, to shootings in kingston, and to 'media' news. she also wrote a story when j&a got fired and when the new team was in place at 92.9. and i've never had any problems looking at their articles on-line.

Just noticed this afternoon that WGNY-FM now is running 3 HD channels. HD-2 is the same as HD-1, except close to a minute 'behind", and much lower audio quality. And HD-3 is Fox country.

The more I actually try to listen to this station, the more disappointed I am. The whole presentation is awful. Random college stations sound better. What a waste of air space.

I agree 100%. While they play some great songs, I haven’t heard in years overall, there is too much really old music. In the above-mentioned article, Van Ritshie said they are not just card readers; that the air personalities are allowed to let their personalities shine through. That doesn’t say much good about them; I think the presentation is dull, lifeless and lacking energy .Of course I have been prejudice against Fox oldies since it replaced the far superior WVOS on 95.7. I was spoiled.
P-Town reported that Suzy Garcia would be starting on WGNY, Monday March 21, however Buffalo Bob is on right now, but then again they just broadcast yesterday’s weather.

Being an oldies fan, I'm loving the music mix. The chatter about the older demo is a valid one to a point; some of the music goes back too far, but for a niche station, it might work. Bottom line is if it makes real dollars, and time will tell that. Van is Van, full of himself. Bob O is right on the money with his shotgun delivery and good pipes. Buffalo Bob talks too much, and really doesn't sound like a radio guy. Too bad, because he seems to have the knowledge of the music. i understand Joe manglass is recovering from an illness; Not sure what the deal is there but his delivery is poor. I have to hand it to Sunrise; they are going after the oldies format with a vengeance. Streaming, simulcasting, HD....he's got it covered and gets out to NJ and PA thru his Port Jervis WDLC simulcast. Haven't heard anything about Suzy??? As I said, time will tell....

oldies4ever ;D

As far as playlist, Fox Oldies blows the True Oldies Channel out of the water. However, I do agree that the presentation is a mess. I never thought Sunrise was great in that department. Needs to be cleaned up. Haven't had a chance to listen to the personalities for any length of time, but I've always liked Bob O.

We should probably just appreciate what we got with Fox since it sounds much different than most corporate owned radio stations.
