WGR -- NFL Schedule

The Buffalo Bills were not scheduled for any National Prime time night games. They did get a Thanksgiving Day national game at Dallas. That will give CBS the opportunity to revisit the Cowboys Super Bowl wins from the 90s.

Some of the WGR listener comments on social media mention a "lack of respect" as the reason for Buffalo getting no Prime Time games. Small TV market + bad team + lack of stars + bad stadium = real reason. Green Bay missed the playoffs last year, but still will appear on 5 night games. Packers are a ratings draw because of heritage and a star quarterback. Cleveland has added offensive firepower and also will be on night games. New Orleans, New England, Kansas City, and others are great for national ratings with lots of offense. Big markets like Dallas, Houston, Seattle, LA, Atlanta, Chicago and cities with new stadiums will always get coverage.

It's very simple. Teams that offer compelling content get scheduled on prime time. The Bills haven't done that since the mid 90s. That's why they are irrelevant now...

Putting call letters in a post that ostensibly chides the Buffalo Bills keeps the thread from getting tossed on the dung heap known as Take It Outside. Nicely played. Added points for mentioning that Buffalo-Niagara Falls is a small market. But the fact is, the Bills have been working (and succeeding) for years to make the team a regional entity that draws ticket purchases and merchandising sales from Rochester and Toronto-Hamilton-Niagara Falls, Canada. This 'regional team tactic' yields a higher body count and actually puts the team in what would be considered a Top 20 market, for ticket-draw / fans-in-the-seats purposes. As to the WGR callers, fans don't need to pass an IQ test in any market in order to speed dial a local sports talk station. Not everybody can be a member of Mensa like one of the hosts who's at his exasperation breaking point (which is always a treat) when he's dealing with bar stool coaches and general managers.

Every team in the NFL draws in fans from a 100 mile radius. All the teams make big money. That wasn't the point.

WGR and every other sports outlet were discussing the release of the schedule. Some fans were whining about the Bills not getting night games. The TV networks want games that will attract a large national audience. Some fans (fanatics) cannot comprehend that...

String together some playoff appearances and maybe a championship or two and the Bills will get better schedules. Ain't happening until B&B leave Foxboro.
