WGRR DJ Question

What was Steve Bender on before joining WGRR weekends I thik thats his name (not Steve Mann from weeknights)? He sounds Familar to me but I don't remember what station. Also I thought a classic hits station only played songs from the 60's and 70's but I hear a 80's tune from time to time on WGRR On Tuesday at around 6:45pm I heard Jim LaBarbara play Huey Lewis and The News - Power of Love lol. Thier promo says they only play songs from the 60's and 70's lol.

The new Cumulus or Cumulus Partners format that they are running on WGRR and other stations across the Nation are playing primarily 60's and 70's music but will throw in an 80's song now and then because the oldies audience is getting older and they are wanting to attract more of the younger side of the 25-54 Demo audience. You may hear some REO, Queen, Rick Springfield, Hall & Oats, and even "You Got It" from Roy Orbison which was a hit back in 1989. Usually these Artist from the 80's only come up once or twice during a shift, depending on how much input the Music Director does to the logs. "Thanks for writing, now back to the Countdown..."

While we're raggin' on WGRR, shame on them for dropping Dick Bartley's Rock & Roll's Greatest Hits on Saturday Night. My local affiliate in Indiana pre-empted the show with a ball game, so I went to 103.5 only to find out they didn't carry it any longer. I'm a fan of local radio...but Dick's show is superb & I hope they'll consider bringing it back.

Steve Bender was PD for MIX, and did a midday (?) air shift.

Given the fact that WGRR has dumped pretty much all of the syndicated programming it carried before the acquisition by Cumulus, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. :)
