WGRR Jacked next?

As of this afternoon, Infinity flipped long time oldies CBSFM 101 FM to Jack FM 101. There oldies format continues as a webcast. Infinity also flipped Chicago oldies WJMK to jack, which now changed its website now points to www.wjmk.com. Will CC flip 1530 back to Oldies if WGRR goes away. It did better than .8.
Edited by microbob on 06/03/05 11:56 PM.

Yes and no. 1530 has only been around for 6 months and the latest trend was at the beginning of spring, back in early March (I think)

My Guess is if Infinity is Jacking all of its Oldies Station GRR wont see July as an Oldies Station. CC Running Lib Talk off the Bird through Prophet is Cheaper than having to Pay a little more for oldies talent to Voice Track an oldies Station. Plus CC is slowly getting out of the oldies game. remember WSAI and WCOL now WTPG in Columbus were 2 of the first Real Oldies Station that CC Put on the AIr and there both airing Lib Talk now. CC Aint going to go back to the Oldies format. they will settle for a cheaply programable format

Q has also moved more CHR...

...so that a JACK move on WGRR would not affect Q102 as much as if they were still doing lots of 80s and 90s retro stuff.

And again, give WCKY a year. The Trend goes back to the very beginning of the format and you need to give it time.

You guys and your hair triggers...

Im Not Jumping but when NYC and Chicago both lose their Oldies Stations Simultaniously both owned by Infinity and WGRR is Owned by Infinity. odds are saying WGRR Might not last much longer till it gets Jacked or something else. and i dont look at the formerlly called Bob On the 97.7's and 99.5 as a premempted Strike against infinity.

Re: Q has also moved more CHR...

I wouldn't doubt that WGRR's future as an oldies station can be measured in hours, not days, weeks, months and definately not years. Mix 94.1 is trying to take the "variety hits" position (heard "Baby I Need Your Lovin'" the other day, and a promo about "variety hits". Infinity certainly wouldn't let 97.7 stop them.

That would explain why Peter Z, WGRR's PD, has been job hunting.
The writing is on the wall.

Let's hope Infinity does it before CC does it first and ruins the whole format. I've heard that CC's so-called variety hits station in Des Moines has about as many songs on their playlist as any other CC station does.

Jack kills Hot AC

If they are blowing up CBS nothing is sacred. The only thing stopping them from Jack would be it would really carve up Q (even more to Mix).

I don't see the Bryant regime having the courage to do Jack or rock for that matter.

Re: Jack kills Hot AC

Q may shift more to CHR as in the case already. As for what Infinity Cincinnati thinks of Jack it mat not matter, if there is a corporate mandate to have a JackFM where Infinity has an oldies station.

Better yet, let's see who'll make the first move: Clear Channel just flipped its All-80s outlet in Chattanooga Friday[June 3rd] to the Variety Hits format, so anything is fair game.

I love listening to WGRR. I know it isn't as good as it used to be but I enjoyed the songs that the station plays. This station is one of the reasons I have switched to satelitte radio yet. So if WGRR Oldies 103.5 goes then I'm going to satelitte radio.
