WGRR Off the Air

Problems this morning on WGRR beginning around 9:35. Still off as of 10:55. There appears to be a carrier there, but nothing but noise modulating it. Sounds like something digital is locked up....

And could it be that no one is there to A) Monitor it and B) Fix it?

That's a GOOD question, Bob!

Or, no one cares? ??? Its Sunday morning after all.

Checked at 4:45 AM and it sounds fine. How long was the outage?

It was off about 2 hours. It sounded like a T-1 problem to me, but I don't have knowledge of the STL system or method. If so, they might have been at the mercy of Cincinnati Bell.

And with all of the tall towers on high hills around Cincinnati, WHY are we using phone lines for the STL again????

I have used T1s for several backhauls. Mostly because there is no microwave path and one had it's satellite dishes and receivers at the transmitter site because of landlord restrictions.

In many cases due to @$$!ing "HD" radio. Common practice is to put some if the hd crap at the studio and some at the tower and link it via a wide pipe like a T-1. Personally I dont like the idea. Nothing beats a good old 940mhz licensed stl for reliability.
