They've been playing AC/DC occasionally as well, which leads me to wonder when will they just take the plunge and go "Classic Rock". Oh, that's right, they have "The Fox" and we can't step on their toes. Bottom line, it's BAD radio all around. I'm by no means a programming wiz and I'm sure you pros out there will rip me a new one but let me take a stab at this. I get the "Greatest Hits" motto, it gives them the excuse to play the 200 greatest hits that they think were great, over and over and over and over, did I mention over and over? The only time I listen any more is when Cassy's Top 40 flashback is on which is on too early in my opinion. What's cool about those old ATF's is you hear those songs that you forgot about because today's radio chooses the music that they think you want to hear and make you forget them songs. Oh yeah, you call that research. I'll go with my own research which is talking to the working stiffs out there that still listen to radio during the day that will tell you that they're sick of hearing the same old crap (all formats BTW) over and over. 9 out of 10 will tell me that. Again, did I mention over and over? If I could program 'GRR I would have the "No Repeat Week". Cover the mid to late 60's, ALL of the 70's, and the EARLY 80's and hit every top 40 chart over that 25 year period. Play them all. Make your listeners want to tune in as much as possible because they're going to want to hear what you're going to play next. Hell, it could be a "No Repeat Month". Surprise them! Storm this market! Put Rewind and Mojo to rest. They have good personalities and they're "Live and Local" which is a nice touch in today's radio world. Now, if they're going to continue down the road they're on, playing VH, AC/DC, Stepenwolf, and Layla every freakin' day then what to do with 92.5? Well, here's what I'd do with it. Dump Bob and Tom first and foremost. There's currently another post on this board about morning shows and the overall opinion is that B&T should go. It's old and worn out and it's just not that funny anymore. Spend some money (I know, we can't do that) and get Marty Bender and Eddie Fingers back together and put an awesome morning show together. You already have Chris Geison and there's plenty of classic rock-jocks sitting on the beach right now that would love to be back on the air. Step up the rock you're currently playing, focusing on 80's glam and hair metal. Do you see where I'm going with this? Make The Fox like the original 96 Rock format. Before you shutter, think about this. Where are the people that listened to that format now? They are 40 something homeowners, car buyers, Home Depot shoppers, dine-out folks, etc... As for that target female audience, I know many women who would love to listen to that stuff all the time and guess what, they're in the that target demo as well. They're the ones paying the bills and balancing the check-books. Not all adult females want to hear Rewind, Journey (the station), or Warm. Want proof, go to one of these upcoming hair band concerts this summer at Riverbend. I think it's a no-brain er and why not give it a shot. You can always gradually go back to the way it is now if it doesn't work out. As for Journey 94.1, stop the madness NOW. Blow it up and go with "The Storm" you gimmick-ed. Smooth Jazz or Classic Country, take your pick. One footnote, was Rod Stewart's "Young Turks" a Great Hit? It's got to be one of his worse, up there with "Do You Think I'm Sexy". Would I pull them from the playlist? NO, but you would only hear them once in a great while.
Thanks for letting me rant.
