WGRR--The Countdown to Jack Begins?

WGRR's PD is out the door, headed for the vacant PD position at co-owned Infinity Dallas oldies KLUV-FM.

Peter Z (Zolnowski) came to WGRR as APD/ND in 1999 and was named PD in 2003. He was previously head of WSAI and WCKY (pre-Jacor/CC).

So, you move a PD from Cincinnati's heritage oldies station to KLUV-FM, which seems pretty stable with the format. Rumors abound that WGRR is the next to change to "Jack" even before the PD move happens. So, does the PD ask to move? Or is he moved in anticipation of a format change?

All conjecture on my part...

I guess this is good on KLuv's part, maybe it won't be hi"JACK"ed anytime soon.

The first US Jack-FM is in Dallas and does all right in the ratings but not great.

JACK-Dallas

Been top 10 25-54 for a good run now, topping out at #6. Sure sounds like they're doing pretty well (they're kicking KLUV's tail).

Re: JACK-Dallas

Sorry about that. I read somewhere that they were between #12 and #18 in the ratings. If Jack is #6 then they are doing well.

Here in Austin, Bob was #1 and just missed, being edged out by KASE, longtime country and perennial winner in the ratings. so now Bob is #2.

KLUV really

Yeah, no sweat- actually, those are KLUV's 25-54 rankings of late.

I don't see JACK coming to the Queen City. I believe all formats are covered. CC's MIX does a good job with variety hits, WEBN's got the mainstream, FOX with classic rock. There's 2 country's. Etc, etc. WGRR does well and has evolved into the 70's. Mike McVay has good points on what a market needs to LACK for JACK to work... www.mcvaymedia.com

KLUV-Dallas wont be Jacked Because Infinity Jacked its Sister Station a year ago

First JACK-FM in US

I believe KJAC 105.5/Timnath-Denver, CO was the first US station to flip to JACK-FM in April 2004. KJKK/Dallas-Ft Worth didn't get JACKed until July of that year.
______________

Re: First JACK-FM in US

My appologies, I believe you are right. The one in Denver is a "Jack" and does not use some other name?

Since Jack is already in Dallas, we can only hope that Peter Z keeps KLUV alive. Kluv is losing it's main morning personality Ron Chapman as of this Friday. Although he has been doing shows with his replacement Jodi Dean, rumors still fly about other changes at the station according to local newspaper reports. Stay tuned.
______________
