WGRR

What a shame that new ownership and management has ruined WGRR. There format is so confusing that no one knows WHAT they are playing. I know several people who can't stand the blah blah blah of Chris and that wife of his, and stopped listening altogether. I still can't understand why these corporations who program stations do not understand that there is an audience out there of 45-55 year olds who have more diposable income than many other segments of the population, but they do not seem to care about programming that attracts that age group. I never thought I'd do it, but I am back listening to AM radio. Who would have guessed? Between WDJO and my XM radio, I don't even listen to FM anymore. There are thousands of us out there, and FM doesn't seem to even care. Maybe they need to realize that many of us, especially those of us over 15 years of age, really don't care about hip hop and rap.

I like GRR's hybrid Mojo/Jack format.. If you want 50/60's oldies WDJO is the better station. I think that even WGRR in its current state will be gone in a few years. I'm surprised that Classic Rock stations with limited playlists like WOFX are still around. That format is burn't out and will be the next to disappear.

I can't comment on the morning show as I don't listen..

ClassX programs to the boomers and will, hopefully, for a long long time. Our playlist is limited, but only by 6,000 tunes and still adding until we hit 20,000 or so.

Classic Rock like ClassX will survive until the boomers are gone because that is what they grew up listening to. Many, including myself, do not like Alternative or Modern rock and will prefer a wide selection of Classic Album Rock like what ClassX is playing.

88.9 ClassX

Miracle 88.9

I've heard your station and it's 100x better than the other classic rock station in town that plays the same songs over and over. If your station's playlist is limited then I would bet that 92.5's playlist is 100 songs if that.

Thanks Microbob. I appreciate the kind comments. We do our absolute best to listen to our listeners and do what they like. It's alot of fun. Of course you can't please everyone.

We just need more air personalities to volunteer. Anyone interested can contact Bill at [email protected] to discuss.

FM does care, because without listeners there's very little point. But you can't please all the people all of the time. And I would bet that for each and every person that you know who can't stand the "blah blah blah" there is one dedicated fan.

Microbob's correct... older formats are a dying breed. A few years ago, Cadillac had the same problem: their audience was getting older and buying less. To sell cars, they had to update their image. Radio is no different.

Does Class X still have the low power operation out of Richwood, KY on 107.9? I have family there and visit fairly regularly but am not there now to confirm.

I agree with the comments. Great playlist, and that low power stick in NKY has quite an output.

Yes ClassX is still on 107.9 in Richwood. It's amazing what you can do with a few watts and the right antenna (and a good format). By the way, WZFR-LP will be affiliating themselves this week with ClassX as well. That's right, ChoiceFM will be pulled from 97.7 in Walton this week due to a number of reasons, and simulcasting the 107.9 signal. This board is the first to know in advance.

*Sigh*

How many years has this been going on?

"I hate WGRR..."
"WSAI is the answer!..."
"I love WDJO!..."
"ClassX will never die! What a great radio station!..."

We've all heard how no one programs for me. Tiresome... and pointless.

Wow, I'm so sorry. I thought that was what this board was all about. "Radio Message Board for Cincinnati"

I don't disagree, 88.9... but how many times has WGRR "been ruined"? And how many times do we have to "find the answer" in a station that is programmed for a niche audience?

I understand wanting to listen to your listeners but just because some guy in Rabbit Hash wants to hear a deep cut from a Bob Dylan album doesn't mean that 99% of your audience wants to hear it. It may be cool for awhile to listen to a station who's variety is 20,000 songs but eventually most want to hear the hits.

As much as a lot of people on this board want to hear a wider variety - and the people on this board are not the average listener - there's a reason that successful radio stations "play the hits". They were hits for a reason.

Having said that, I wish you luck 88.9.

Moderator,

Maybe you can explain to me why 2 posts, one by Mr. Bates and one by 88.9 the Miracle, were deleted. Neither was derogatory or inflammatory. Both were simply part of an ongoing discussion and didn't warrant deletion. If the posts that were deleted meet the criteria for deletion then maybe you should have a look around the rest of the board. There are quite a few other posts that you may want to take a second look at.

Or do you just have an itchy trigger finger this morning?

Why is 97.7 needed? The coverage on the radio-locator map for 97.7 and 107.9 looks almost identical (97.7 might be slightly larger). Will 107.9 be shut down or divested then?

They are both on the same stick. 97.7 is pointed to the south while 107.9 is pointed to the north (for obvious co-channel reasons). So 97.7 will extend the ClassX format almost to Dry Ridge.

As I understand it, 97.7 is available.

WOXY would be perfect for ClassX.. another full signal would be great

I can get 88.9 better on my FM Radio with an outdoor antenna at my location just south of Dry Ridge...97.7 fades out in the car around Crittenden KY.

107.9 fades around the same location.

There may be more people than you think who want to hear more than the same 15 songs over and over again. Why do you think FM is losing audience to satellite radio, Internet radio, ipods, CDs, etc.

WGRR has its large niche and stations like ClassX have their smaller niche. I don't understand why the big deal. If anyone can have a 20,000 song library it would be a small non-comm/Internet station, right? Remember, the guys at ClassX are not competing at the corporate level.....a point some seem to forget. They can program to any niche they want. You can second guess their thinking all you want, but my hunch is it doesn't much matter. They're just having some fun....which I doubt is happening a whole lot in the corporate radio world today.

Keys2,

You hit the nail on the head. We certainly are not Corporate and we don't need $3,000,000 in sales per year to satisfy stockholders and of course to pay for our Jag's, etc. We don't have stockholders and I drive a mini-van almost paid for. This is community radio serving the listeners, not the sponsors. But at the same time, we ARE a business and we do have to survive. But the funds are already beginning to flow. We just need survival money, not profits. With the shakeup of the Cincinnati FM dial, it certainly has made a difference in our listenership because people are once again using their scan button to locate something to listen to and they are finding ClassX when they never knew it was there. We know this from tons of emails and calls. The listeners are passionate in the things that they say.

I got into this because of my radio infection and passion to serve listeners in a way that is no longer common in a market like Cincinnati. Wow, what a concept. It's working.

Wow, who do you know in radio that drives a jag? Market managers excluded.

See the above... with the possible exception of sales staff, I think that's the reason most of us do it.
