The reason you're hearing more Classic Rock is because disco is more female appeal. Who's running most stations? MALES. That's why you see more and more oldies stations going rock. Good example is COX. Bob Neil loves rock and that's what most of his oldies stations are moving to. Bob even refuses to TEST R&B and Disco in research!

Actually, most disco has limited appeal, regardless of gender. All those R&B/disco titles have been tested to death and they mostly come back as major dogs (which is a big reason most Jammin' Oldies stations failed). It's the mainstream pop/rock mass-appeal HITS of the '70s that the most people want to hear most.

There's a good reason Steve Dahl set fire to all those disco records in Chicago. Disco is (for the most part) dead.

Disco doesn't test? It does in my last six Auditorium tests.

Not all of it, but there are easily 25 great disco songs that
test very well on 50/50 male /female testing, 35-54.

Maybe it depends on the region, but in my area people like
KC & Sunshine Band, Donna Summer, Bee Gees, and others.

Anytime i ever tested disco in research it did very well. Yes it has burnout just like Edgar Winter and Areosmith. The key is mix some disco with Soul/R&B with Pop and THATS what the majority want to hear. The word DISCO is a negative word not the music.

The Jammin Oldies stations that played the same 250 songs over and over failed. The succesful ones had about 750 songs, Personalities that made a listener connection and great promotions/marketing.

Most PDs of CHR and Hot AC stations are also males, yet they do a great job of targeting females. Your theory on males playing rock songs doesn't face what reality is.

It all depends on who you're testing, what your screener looks like (more specific than M/F 35-54). If you're an Urban AC or Movin'-type station, 25 great disco songs that test isn't really that many. But, not knowing your screen or format makes that difficult to determine.
